So I have 20" staggered summer wheels/tires that I got as an option with my X6, then bought a set of 19" oem take off wheels that I was going to use for the winter.

Went to discount tire today and has them do the swap. Car drove okay to work and home but then I noticed in my garage something was way off! On the passenger side the rear wheel seemed too retracted and the front was sticking out too far. The drivers side looked fine.

These are the 19" square setup so they didn't put the wrong wheels on the front and rear...

I have never seen anything like this. Of course they are closed now but what could cause this? I measured and the inside of the tire/wheel is 1" more retracted on the passenger side rear and 1" extra space on the front compared to drivers side, tires and wheels are all the same size, checked that twice.

Tried taking some pictures using the same angle. Front is really obvious it's sticking out past fender.

Same size tires doesn't mean that the wheels are the same offset and width.
You may want to check that.

If I am not mistaken OEM 19" rims are different between front and rears even though they use the same tires, and it sounds like they put them wrongly on one side.
Just go back tomorrow and have them fix it.

Something is odd, measuring inside of wheel they are all the same.

These are the wheels.
Style 594
9x19 square, I hand measured and they are all 9"

are you sure?
from looking on realoem.com, it lists the front and rear wheels being the same 9JX19 ET:48

edit: x5 are same all around. x6 are different front to rear.

I do plan on going back in the morning (because I have nothing better to do with my time ?) but was wondering if anyone here knew what they could have done. My limited wheel/tire knowledge is clueless on this one. Only time I have seen it before is years ago when they did mix up a front and rear on my M Coupe. What would cause one to be pushed out and the other retracted only on one side while other side is fine when it's not a wheel size difference?

those dont look like a x5 rim. so that may explain why the offsets are different.

? They are the standard rim on the X6 if you use the bmwusa build confit its that wheel...

No, thank you for your help, I really appreciate it, that solves it!
I never thought about them having different offsets!

hopefully it didn't ruin anything on the car, drove about 30 miles like that today.

I also hope this can maybe help someone in the future who has the same problem, can't believe they (or I) didn't notice something was off (but they were PACKED, with Chicago getting 3-5 inches saturday people are freaking out about their tires)

This is why I do it myself. Just put my winters on yesterday. But that's interesting. I wouldn't have known that a square setup would have different offset front to rear. It takes basically the only advantage of having a square setup away... the ability to rotate front to rear to even out wear. Don't know why they would design it that way.

It sucks that you cant rotate the wheels (unless you get spacers for the rear)

I can't believe they installed the wheels like that and didn't notice it themselves....
