Damaged drivers side rear flare

Hi All,

I think my neighbor hit my driver's side fender flare backing out of their spot...the damage isn't bad but I don't think touching it up would look very good so I am thinking it would be best to replace the flare, hopefully on my neighbor's dime...We'll see how that goes. I'm pretty pissed that they hit my less than 2 month old car...but I'm glad it wasn't worse.

Does anyone know the part number for the driver's side rear wheel flare in Alpine White? I believe it comes painted from what I can tell from the listing on bmwpartspros.com...anyone able to verify this?

I believe this is the part number (51777378583) but I'm not sure if Left is considered driver's side.., anyone able to confirm?
White rivets P/N: 07147391324

Could have been worse, but I know how you feel man...

P.S. Just in case if you won't find painted flare - there's a Alpine White 300 paint kit - exact match to oem paint (custom mixed and put into a can) with accompanied clear coat: https://scratchwizard.net/paint-sear...25&model=15456

Couple members here and myself can vouch for that company and paint been exact match. I have Alpine White too

I think I found one on e-bay that I can just swap out already painted AW. I may just need to order the replacement rivets.

Sorry to hear that. Hopefully the neighbor makes you whole. Then again... I would've expected a note on the car or my house door if they were good citizens.

Anyhoo, looks like front driver's side part number is 51 77 7 378 581. Comes primed. You be never seen body parts ever come painted (unless someone like iND does it after purchase).

Hopefully the pic shows up ok.

Yah, I hope they do too...

Noticed from some other listings that you are correct and it's just primed. Having it painted shouldn't cost too much.

It's actually the rear driver's side flare that I need.

Yah, definitely could have been worse but still frustrating and time consuming to deal with, all due to their carelessness. The funny thing is that I can already see where they went ahead and polished out the damage to their bumper. Their whole car is dirty but just the corner of their bumper is clean and I can still see polish residue on the paint...This means they know they hit me but chose not to leave me a note. There was no actual damage to their paint (Toyota 4Runner). Is our paint really that soft/thin??

Thanks DuSh. So can I take this paint to an autobody shop and have them paint the flare?

No, that's if you want to DIY. Any body shop will paint the part for you to the exact paint code without you providing the paint. For a flare, I probably wouldn't do it myself. For smaller pieces (like the front tow hook flap in my case), using touch-up sources that come in rattle cans is fine.

ahh ok, I don't want to DIY. Any idea on what a body shop will charge to paint the flare?

I think it will cost less overall if I just buy a new flare and rivets, have a body shop paint the flair and do the replacement myself. This is likely going to eat in to my mod money I doubt my neighbor is going to own up to it.

Can't quite tell, but that's not something you can polish out?

No, unfortunately the paint has rubbed off and what you see there is the plastic underneath.

Ouch. I'll be honest with you: you might just want to take it to a body shop and have them spray it. I bet a good body shop will be able to tape the car off and nicely blend in the portion where the paint's gone.

I'll try to have a body shop take a look at it tomorrow. I'm not too familiar with paint work but I know it can get expensive quick if they have to R&I the part etc...

I was thinking if my neighbor is not willing to take care of it, I'll just use some touch up paint for now and then wait until spring to replace or repaint it.

That dirty SOB.

Similar situation happened to my 750 except I didn't know who did it. But I had a suspect. I ended getting the whole bumper repainted for about $500 if I remember correctly.

I agree...

What pisses me off the most is that they know they hit me and tried to cover it up and not leave a note or try to get in contact with me. The funny part is, I saw the marks on their front bumper yesterday and was wondering how they got there because their 4Runner is brand new also. Well, after looking at my fender flare today, I know where the marks came from.

I left a note on their windshield...let's see if they contact me.

Ummmm, I'd "ask" them about it and show them the corresponding swappage of paint and see how they respond. Take pics asap if you can.

Looking at your pic again, if the black streak is the only damage, then you prob could do a pretty good job yourself with touch up cans. I orig saw the reflection above the black marks and thought it was damaged/creased up there as well.
As P1et said, just swing by a body shop and see what they'd charge to lightly sand and spray. Might be too small of a job for some which means you might get some exorbitant quote, but doesn't hurt to check.

Unfortunately they did a pretty good job of polishing out the damage on their car already.

I got lucky and was going outside to survey the damage again and caught the owner while he was about to back out of his spot. We had a bit of a language barrier but he seemed to understand what I was saying and gave me his insurance info. I just filed a claim with his insurance company so we'll see how that goes.

Yah, the only damage is the black along the edge of the fender flare where the paint was rubbed off. I'd of course rather have it completely repainted and will go that route if his insurance will cover it. Hopefully he'll be more careful backing out in the future.

Man that really looks like rubber/paint transfer from my screen, in which case a swirl remover or buffing compound coupled with some elbow grease would take it out nicely. But you can see it better in person so I'm just typing to hear my own voice

What a drag for you...I swear the world used to be a better place. Maybe it's just my imagination.

It definitely just looks like a rubber mark from the picture and I totally wish that was all it is. I would have taken some rubbing compound to it and be done with it.

I had the same thing happen to me with my old car but the neighbor on the other side but luckily it was just some minor scratches and paint transfer that I could mostly buff out. It's like I have to have this battle scar with each new car...

Hmmmm, language barrier or not, if they polished your paint off of their car, then they knew they were being shady.
Same thing happened to me (in Seattle no less! ) when an older couple just happened to be walking to their car as I was surveying the cracked fog light and scrapes to my Benz. I look up and lo'n'behold, they open the car that's directly in front of mine... complete with black paint on the rear of their lighter colored car. Talk about good timing. After asking them about it, the husband admitted he may have felt something while backing out the night before.
Turns out he was a lawyer from Reno, so sent me a check after I got multiple quotes for his "team" to approve. That and the requisite indemnity clause/letter.
