Just an update to this... my dealer replaced all four 469M wheels the other day. I think the regional rep was dragging his feet. It took a couple weeks to get approval, but it eventually got done with minimal fuss. I'm pretty happy...new wheels look great. Nice and shiny. Thank you guys for the info in this thread.

I’m sorry if I missed it but does anyone know if this is a issue with any other bmw wheel 375, 310, etc. ?
Thanks

Looks like my 469s are corroded as well. What is the history with the replaced rims? Are they corroding too?

Hi,

I am going tomorrow for service. Do you mind sharing your info?

Well, I’d need a little more lead time to find it than this. You’ll have to initiate the claim and wait for their decision/findings and go from there. It’s been hit or miss with service departments.

Best of luck and let us know how it goes.

Ok thank you.
Do you have to be under warranty or the default 12 years warranty is enough ?
I also have a tire and rims insurance was useful once so far.

Mine were replaced while still under the factory warranty. They may take the easiest route and use the insurance for your claim.

Or easiest route "nothing we can do about that. It's normal." Lol
Same with rusted rotors. They were changed last time on the back wheels. This time "nothing we can do".

Last email response from JR my SA in Manhattan..
BMW does not have any coverage on the wheel corrosion as of now.

Bump,

I am getting a run around the rims peeling. Went to 3 different dealers and the answer is

"Normal, nothing can be done" etc etc.

Car still under warranty.
Can I contact BMW NA directly? How?

I'd stick with a dealer you normally deal with. If your SA is not cooperating with you, then ask to speak with the supervisor to further escalate the issue.
Take clear and precise pictures of the corrosion and send an email to the Supervisor and copy your SA. If you don't get further cooperation with them, then I would email BMWNA and have every communication with your dealer available to provide to them. Emphasize that you are not happy and dissatisfied with BMW. Also explain to them that you are a loyal customer to BMW but this may change in the future depending on the outcome of this claim.

Did you ask them what part of the "rim's peeling" is normal? The reason I ask is because when they initially denied my claim, they said "outside influence caused the corrosion." I asked them to identify what the outside source was, they were unable to and ultimately overturned the denial and replaced them all.
Here is some of the email coorespondence between the Service Director (SD) and myself.
"My market representative from BMW has agreed to discuss your wheels on his visit on the 25th.
I've forwarded your photos to see if I can get you a resolution before he arrives."

I was informed by the SA, and SD that the Market Representative (MR) was the only person that could overturn the denial. I am not sure how true that is, but it might be worth requesting thier MR's intervention, or review of your claim.

I agree with this, except the BWWNA portion. I contacted BMWNA after the initial denial of my claim. BMWNA was completely useless in this matter and offered zero support or inclination of assisting me or the dealer in getting resolution.
If the SA is unwilling to assist you further, I would request to be assigned to a new SA, then escelate the issue to Service Supervisor and Service Manager/Service Director.

Best of luck, keep us posted.

Violator that was my experience with BMWNA as well. Its like they couldnt care less....When I purchased my CPO 50i the techs swapped the all seasons for rft summers...when i went to change them at my performance shop, they couldnt get the wheels off the car without breaking the lugs. The tech who changed the tires at the dealer torqued on the lugs way past the threshold. literally spent 3-4 hours in labor to get off and BMWNA did nothing....after fighting with the dealer for a month and blasting them on twitter (Bill Jacobs in Naperville) they finally agreed to reimburse me for the labor.

It’s sad that customers must resort to public shaming in order to get a company to do the right thing. I’m glad it worked out in the end.

Ya my dealer wouldn't do jack. Took me to get into wreck to have one refinished that I just asked for them all to be redone. Cheaper than a new rim.

Anyone with a success story form Canada?

My dealer doesn't want even to try to submit the claim.

I had a different experience. BMWNA got involved and I'm guessing they negotiated with my dealers management to have my wheels replaced under warranty. I did emphasize that this is my 6th BMW ( they even checked my credentials to confirm it ) and how loyal I am with BMW and my continued support with them blah blah blah. I don't know if that influenced their decision or not.

That’s insane, I didn’t know it was an option whether they want to or not. They should submit the claim and let the process work, regardless of their thoughts on the claim/issue. This is where I feel BMWNA would come in because the dealer is refusing to submit a claim.
Have you contacted BMWNA about their lack of following the process?

Interesting, I guess it’s like any other customer service department, it all depends on who you get on the other end of the line. I’m glad they assisted you, sounds like it’s hit or miss.

for those of you who have replaced wheels or had them refinished have you applied anti-seize and or anti-corrosive grease on the hubs to mitigate further issues?

I sold mine as soon as I picked them up.

Actually, I already had them sold, but the buyer agreed to wait and see if I could get new ones before I shipped them. He revived a brand new set of 469’s wrapped in new-ish Conti DWS06 for a steal.
