2014 X5 50i owners experience

Hi I'm thinking about trading in my 2015 Vw GTI for 14 X5 50i. i just want to get a bigger car for my growing family. The car has 50,000 miles on it and i just want to ask an honest good and bad experince from it. Also anything i need to know before getting it. thanks!

Do you have access to maintenance records?

I have 110,000 on mine now, still runs good...
Crankcase vent hose, should have been addressed on a vehicle with 50k miles.

You are also looking at having to replace sparkplugs and coils, maybe injectors, at 50K miles. (has recalls been addressed? See injectors)
When were brakes last checked, or replaced?
If you have rear air bag suspension, the bags if not replaced already, will likely be needing replacements soon, before they crack and start leaking.

Depending on how it's been driven, you might want to have the engine oil, and transmission and transfer case oil analyzed.

Lifetime oil in transmission etc. is really not lifetime. I had all that changed at around 75K.
If I were you, I would plan on having that changed before you hit 75-80k miles..

Use google or bing to search the forum, works better than the built in search function.

I’m sure someone will chime in here and mention that the injectors changed at some point (2016?) and are probably worth avoiding. $1k each from memory. Other than that and what was mentioned above they have been FAR better than the previous recent V8s from BMW.

70k miles on my 2014. Only issue is front lower rear control arms will periodically need to be replaced. Vent crank case I replaced one of them (there are 2 that should be replaced) and rear air bags.

You will eat oil. Maybe 1 qt in between oil changes. Do them around 7k miles. NOT 10k.

I swapped spark plugs at 30k miles when I tuned it. Haven't changed them since. No issues with coils or injectors for me. And replaced the airbags around 40k miles with arnott.

Did my tranny fluid at 70k. And getting new transfer case under extended warranty as we speak but changing the fluid is probably all it needed. BMW just doesn't service the thing. Replace only haha and as soon as I found out it's covered under warranty I green lit the new one because why not.

Differential fluid is next on my list of things to do as well as coolant.

Brakes are probably still original. My rears lasted 70k miles. Front still original. I did do a fluid swap around 50k miles just for fun. Got a new brake bleeder. You know, man toys.

Change the transfer case fluid. There’s lots of issues being reported of hesitation or shuddering on the 50i atm.
