F15 Xline says winter storm is "cute"

Just took it around the block to see what's up, first time with xdrive in the snow. It didn't seem to care about all that silly stuff on the road. Very secure feeling. Stock goodyear runflats reduced to 25 psi.

First moment there's not a foot of unplowed snow everywhere I'll return it to normal tire pressure of course

Wow, 25psi? Never thought to go that low. Sand, yes, I've heard that, but didn't know for snow as well.
With all the talk/debate regarding winter setups, you Right-Coast-ers should post your snow pics here or start a dedicated thread...

Yeah, well didnt plan to go very far with it, just test it out and took no chances with these runflats. Well aware they must go for real world winter driving!

But really it did great, took it out again just now but our main roads are even worse than the residential street here and there are stuck cars in the middle of everything so that trip to the beer store is definitely gonna wait tonight

Took it out again around 5 and found that while it still felt very confident, the stuck cars all over the roads, beginning of the ice storm, the fact that other vehicles out there all had chains, and that the main road is even worse than our street... well enough of that!!

Where did you get the painted front mud flaps? Looks great! I did not get running boards on my '15, but had them on my '12. After first snow realized that running boards acted like a big mud flap.

Stock height. The tires are taller than stock. They are one size off what is supposed to be on car. I had the tires left over from previous vehicle, so I went ahead and used them. The circumference is off by less than 3%. I forget the exact details right now, but I figured it out when I mounted them. Speedometer is off by 2mph.

What tires did yours come with? Type of goodyear?

I purchased the factory front and rear mudflaps, but haven't installed the rear ones. Their not supposed to fit m-sport model, but they do. They only come in a black slippery plastic material. I dropped them off at local body shop and they charged me $150 to paint all four.

I tested the x5 here in NJ for road worthiness an hour back with atleast 5-6 inches if snow on roads after they had been "cleaned"... It performed like a charm... Stock 19 inch wheels with all season tires... I was surprised how well the car drove... It even climbed the small mound of snow that had accumulated behind the car...

I did the exact same. I lived with the rears for a few weeks but they were hideous and ended up tossing them. And mine did fit m-sport without issues. I too had them painted, but it cost me quite a bit more.....you did well. The process was quite involved as the flaps are grainy, and had to be sanded smooth, then washed with an acid (they used vinegar), then primed, painted, pearl coat added, clear added.

p.s. front ones are still on.

In a few hours the full moon will be overhead and I might have an even better one on account of the snow covered landscape.

With the quality/design of most all season tires supplied on these cars and specifically dedicated snow tires, deflating your tires is not a good idea. Yes it increases the contact patch a bit, but as you rightly say, this is only good for rock hoppers and sand lovers. There is nearly zero difference in effectiveness taking 10 - 12 psi out of a tire for snow.

If the roads clear and you're stuck with under-inflated tires, you'll get squirrelly quick. The opposite is also true - never over-inflate.

I don't think my all season runflats would have done so well at 40 Psi as they did this weekend. It was unstoppable in any snow and our street has yet to be plowed, so there's a 1 km ice rink between the driveway and civilization. Obviously I would not take it over 80 kph or so without returning it to proper inflation, but for 60-70 kph driving to the local pub while the home street sits under 8cm of ice, i'll take all the tyre patch I can get!

I mean it is a brand new machine lol
