Thanks for this. I saved your scanned pic and attached it to an email to RC. Let's see what happens.

Thanks

I've tried my RC on my petrol engine on extreme levels in the winter and also in my last Dynojet but in warm temps I wouldn't increase mine above F since its already 3 ticks above stock. Also, 42pilot have you asked Racechip Germany?

So all in all the same way a certain map wont run as well for someone with JB4, same goes with RC setting. Trojanlaw I remember that pic
I just sent the email to RC today. Let's see.

Trojanlaw - according to RC, it seems you received a "generic manual written for European fuel". For US fuel, they only recommend E0 full stop. He writes we are free to use any other settings but they will always recommend coming back to E0. I wonder how you got that manual for US market. I think it's also interesting and fairly important to know how poor our diesel fuel quality is versus the Europeans.

And my car threw another CEL after reducing the setting. It was again after a short trip. One more step down and I'll be at E0...

@42pilot , what code is that CEL for? Don't take out the equation that BMW parts also can fail prematurely, knowing how they try to save pennies left and right.

Sorry, I deleted it as it was one of those generic codes like P026D or something like that. When I used to call RC for their advice, they couldn't tell me what the code meant but it was related to the chip as a general fueling fault.

I'm going to start using cetane boost to see if that will keep the code from reappearing. If it does, then I know its the fuel.

Mine is throwing the P026D code at least every 100 miles. As stated in another post, the code is generic for "fuel injection quantity - quantity higher than expected". I just clear it and move on.

^^ did you try toning back the RC settings to see if it stops the code? Are you on the original settings?

No issues either, went from C up to 4 (throughout the winter) for testing, racing and dyno :-D
Car was in for service due to a CEL unrelated to RC (ICM Cruise control)
Dealer reset software on car, so i reverted back to C on my car and have been put about 1200 miles on C, now increased to D and just did about 1500 miles going to increase to E next week after I do my first run in the drag-strip.

No issues and two clicks over. It's been a year. I also only get Diesel at Chevron.

I am at 8,000 miles without any CELs on 03. Still going strong.

Mine did throw out a CEL a few days ago that eventually went away. It was on a hotter day (85f ) and I was driving "manually" in a spirited manner. If it does it again, I will dial it back down.

Ambient temp doesn't have anything to do with it.

Do you have any way of checking the code? The code I get, P026D, is more for information and clears on its own eventually. For information, I had mine in the dealer about 10 days ago for it's oil change, and I asked them to scan for codes. Nothing. But in the past six months, I've had at least 3 or 4 CELs so I know the P026D doesn't stick around.

Each click for the RC diesel model increases or decreases performance by 1 1/2%. Be careful with S1 though.

I dialed it back to F3 for a while but the car is an absolute beast at 03. I have gone back to that setting as the car runs the best at that setting and actually feels like a 50i.

I've had a lot of PMs lately asking about my settings. I am at D0 (down from F0) trying to get rid of the "fuel injection quantity" CEL. I think this is a good example of how each Race Chip is different since mine throws codes at lower settings and others can run much higher without codes - assuming all else is equal. Mine threw a code twice in the same day Saturday: first was at start-up (really? start-up? same code - P026D) and then passing at high speed (85-ish) on the interstate. There is no difference in performance with the CEL lit, so it is not altering any operating parameters. I'll let you know if the code keeps showing at the lower fueling setting (supposedly 3% less).

Did you try removing the RC to see if the code still came back? Just wondering if it could be an issue with the car itself.

Good question, but yes I did. So far, it seems to like the new setting. So far...

I ran my RaceChip for 13k miles then got Downpipes & S55 Plugs and runs even better 20k miles now 0 blips or issues like my JB4 friends (inconsistency) they had to rush to get ECU Flash for consistency since they didn't want to do more piggyback.

Cant wait for my X4 M40i
