Parking sensors + snowstorm = fail.

Drove through a snowstorm today. DHP is great for traction. Sensors have to be turned off. Pita

Agreed. On snow be sure to turn off DSC, which turns on DTC, and your traction will be as good as it can get.

I am just curious why this is the case? NY is about to get its first big storm and this is my first time driving the X5 in snow (with snow tires)

I the past i've always left the DSC on with my 535xi also on snow tires.

I think DTC puts more Traction on, since the word "Traction" will be on the dashboard.
I've also noticed this to improve my 0-60 and 1/4 mile time.
So I'm guessing more traction on the grip better in the snow.
I haven't tried this in the snow, but I will.

DTC actually allows a bit more wheelspin than DSC, which can be useful in 'powering through' snow and slush as it doesn't keep braking a wheel that loses grip

DTC allows spin (as mentioned above). I would think this is useful in slow speed situations- not necessarily high-way speeds on snow covered/dusted roads.

Is that right?

I picked that up from the manual. I naturally presume it implies slow speed driving when more traction is needed. I on mobile and can't find the page in the manual but will send it if needed.

During slow speed driving or when trying to get out of a dig similar to rolling back and forth to provide momentum?

Thats when i use DTC in the past is to try to rock the car out of semi stuck situation. I would imagine once you are going at a decent speed you would want normal DSC mode instead of DTC.

I use DTC in the summer when i want max acceleration since it allows more wheel spin during take off (in my 550i)

This is from the manual.
DTC Dynamic Traction Control
The concept

The DTC system is a version of the DSC in which forward momentum is optimized.

The system ensures maximum forward momentum on special road conditions, e.g., unplowed snowy roads, but driving stability is limited.

It is therefore necessary to drive with appropriate caution.

You may find it useful to briefly activate DTC under the following special circumstances:
• When driving in slush or on uncleared, snow-covered roads.
• When rocking the vehicle or driving off in deep snow or on loose surfaces.
• When driving with snow chains.

^^ that is my understanding as well, but I thought allowing wheel spin = slower acceleration?
But then again I think there is a lot of confusion with BMW's DTC (Dynamic Traction Control) and DSC (Dynamic Stability Control).

Allowing some wheel spin is better than the DSC system cutting engine power for hard acceleration. I guess this could apply for heavy snow conditions as well.
