Check your local power company website for rebates. My power company had up to $2000 rebate to cover cost parts and labor; that offer expired at the end of last year. Now, the rebate is only $500, but good through 2018 or 2019.

I have a garage so I could have gotten one that was rated for indoor/just plug and play. But, the Los Angeles power grid is over-taxed and even occasionally had "insufficient grid power" dash errors with using the level one charger. So, I wanted to make sure it was hard-wired and done correctly.

Bosch EL-51253. Had an electrician come, put in a new 40amp circuit and hook this up. It hangs indoors (can be installed outdoors too).

I have both a JuiceBox Pro 40A (40A) and a ClipperCreek LCS-20P (16A). Both with NEMA 14-50 plugs.

The JB is great if you have the space to mount it. The plug cable is 6 ft and the J1772 cable is 25 ft and both are very thick and heavy. The box is steel with no indicator lights. Not at all portable at 20 lbs. It has wi-fi and a smartphone app. You can read data in real time, set charging time, set max current, and lots more. Very cool if you are into all the techno. X5 40e can only charge at max 16A so this is a bit of overkill if you don't have another EV.

The CC is a bigger version of the OEM level 1 EVSE in the trunk (it's made by CC too). Plug cable is 6 inches (WTF were they thinking?) and the J1772 cable is 25 ft. The whole thing is just over 5 lbs. You could take it with you to recharge at RV parks or use someone's dryer outlet. It has lights just like the OEM EVSE. It's basic no frills EVSE, has no settings and no data, just plug it in and charge. CC also makes similar models that are rated for more charge.

After much reasearch, I will be going with the ChargePoint charger. Size of the unit and its wifi capabilities won it over.

Will the car recharge the battery while driving on the freeway, or only when coasting and braking?

What do you guys think?

Have about 5k on my car now, daily driver to work 13 miles each way, and have taken 2 road trips (one to NC and one to VA).
I've achieved 17 miles on a full charge (eDrive), Im currently averaging 38 mpg mixed, and I fill up with gas after mixed driving probably twice a month.
Im charging it overnight daily, and luckily I have a Level 2 at work. Its cheating, I know. (Thank God for Chargepoint!!).
I precondition pretty much daily w/ the BMW Connected app, and I don't use the ventilation/heat on my way to work, just heated seat/steering wheel.

The car really trains you to live a more sustainable lifestyle, My electric bill after daily charging has only gone up 18 or so dollars a month so far, (simple level one charging from outdoor outlet), but saved me a TON in gas. As a matter of fact I'm highly considering solar on the house now.
I love everything this car has taught me so far, and looking forward to my next one already. Convinced one of my friends/coworkers to get out of his 320 and pick up a '17 330e, he'll be doing that Monday, and we will compare stats once he gets in it.

Charging at work is not cheating. Unfortunately, I do not have chargers or any outlets at work; otherwise I would as well.

My electric bill has not gone up and do not necessarily need level 2 charger cause it is always fully charged after 6-8 hours over night.

I did not like the drive of the 330e. I was looking forward to the G30 plug-in hybrid, but was think I will miss the extra HP.

I am getting mid-30's commuting 12 miles each way. No charging station at work unfortunately. On the highway at speeds with the flow of racing traffic, I get low 20's. 4k miles on it so far.

I don't like the feel of the braking at all, especially hard braking. However, I've just adjusted my following distances as best I can, but still, sometimes someone jumps in front of me and stands their car on its nose. Feeling the pedal sink to the floor more than either of my M3's is a bit disconcerting.

Still really like it a lot though. Not regretting the lease, especially in the summer when I bring a cool-ish car into the garage b/c I saved my e-drive juice for the drive home.

If I did a lot of long distance driving, I'd get the diesel or the 3.5 I think.

You're going to love it! We've owned ours for 1 week, and its been very impressive. There is a slight learning curve on how to optimize mpgs, but we're getting there.

Thanks, we went for it even without testing one as none around, but with the high taxes in Ireland and short commute for my wife to work it was by far the best option, she only managed 25k miles in 5 years with our current X3.

Car is coming next week and just realize that the «Multifunctional Instrument Display» (S6WB) is not coming with the 40e (instead of the other X5 models).

If you have hud, there is very little reason to look at dash. Plus, with display you are getting you can code blinkers if hud.

Does anyone have issues with the all weather cargo mat? The BMW one doesn't seem to fit well due to the extra few inches from the battery pack in the floor of the cargo area.

Also, does your car remember the last eDrive mode? If I set it to Max eDrive, it will not remember it on the next startup so I always have to push it again.

I should clarify - the feshasmode8 code is disabled and there is no option for fesallowmode8lastfunction, only 7 is available.

Yes, that is normal, just as it is to not see Edrive on Dash when toggling modes with DES switch.

I must have different firmware.
