My thoughts too. But 80+ mpg is amazing to say the least (which I think it's better than 15 mpg... I think)

The reason I asked about energy consumption is because I want to try to measure efficiency vs a gas or diesel version.

Actually -

. I like to drive it with pure electricity locally.
. I don't have to visit gas station often. Once per 4-6 weeks.
. Range anxiety - agreed. I hate to spend an hour to charge my car in the middle of the trip. So Hybrid fits my needs so far.
. Although I still complain the small size of the 40e battery, I start to feel better and happier with my 40e these days because -
1. I got the EVSE Level 2 installed in my garage.
2. I'm able to charge my car in the office garage. And, it's free with Level 1.
3. Warmer weather extends my driving range.

As of today, my trip computer shows -
1.6 ml/kWh
39.5 mpg
13.2 mph

Here may be the interesting part to some people -
My 2.0 litter engine alone is around 15 mpg.
Average 93 gasoline price $3.3 per gallon.
My 40e is around 1.6 ml/kWh.
My average electricity cost, including all the fees and charges - $0.25 per kWh.

Since Jan 26, 2017, I charged 325.7 kWh from my garage, about $81.43 to my electricity bill.

Based on the calculator in my EVSE, with all of these parameters, it claims that my saving is around $35.40.

Since I pay $0.25 for electricity, I won't see the dramatic price difference here. But, I can image that people may save more if they're in anywhere with the much cheaper electricity.

As for GREEN with EV, it depends how you see it. I may reduce pollution on the roads, but my energy providers may produce more somewhere else.

Oh, forgot to say that gasoline price also is definitely playing the big role here. In where I'm, if my gasoline is a little bit cheaper, my EV won't save me any but cost more.

Also let's not forget that Lithium, Cobalt and other elements mining required for batteries not as clean as many environmentalist want it to be.

With all due respect... All of these excitement of cost savings etc. is BS...

First you are already overpaying for a luxury class SUV and trying to squeeze as much efficiency out of a mid sized cargo truck is oxymoron.. Now if you were driving a tesla model 3, BMW i3 and even a small compact Toyota prius / Nissan leaf and boasting about saving gas and the environment then I applaud you.

LOL.

Not sure if it’s to me or not.

First of all, I don’t feel excitement of cost saving yet. As you mentioned, we probably overpaid to get this 40e. But, actually, my lease deal is pretty good, and I paid less than 35i. And, we all know, with this heavy X5, the good efficiency is hard to achieve. (And, it's very possible that I won't lease another 40e in 2020.)

Second, I posted some info about the cost analysis. Ppl can do their own math to figure out if it meets their standards or not. I don’t plan to promote the cost saving for 40e. As I said I don’t feel I save much, and actually it doesn’t matter to me.

I do feel a little bit excited that I can try something different. Life is boring. Personally it’s worth to experience something new for cars, most of my cars are Petrol, but I also ever owned or leased something else, for example, ’12 Telsa Model S for an year in 2012, ’16 Toyota Mirai for 2 months in 2017, Skoda Rapid Diesel for 3-weeks (don’t know the model year) in 2018, etc. When I have the chance to rent a car, I always like to try something new.

Let’s say that many people feel some kind of excitements from their cars. They’re excited about the discounts they saved when getting the car. They feel excited when $0 maintenance they have to pay. They’re happy their superior MPG they can get. They’re excited about the bling bling car they have after spending $$$. It’s part of the excitement from owning the car you like. So why can't they feel excited that their X5 can do very good MPG or MPGe? It’s the achievement, isn’t it?

A friend was excited to find the discount tires for his Ferrari. Also he complained his MPG sucked. We all laughed at this. But, it’s nothing wrong. Human Beings will be excited on things and likely murmur anything they don’t agree with.

It wasn't directed at you but just in general.

People just hate for no reason. Just hate, for the sake of hate. It's like their heart is so hateful that their body can't even contain all the hate, so some of it inevitably spills onto the internet.

OP, that is very cool. I've never driven the 40e. I've owned the 8, 6, and diesel. Too late for the F15 for me to consider the 40e now. Curious how it drives compared to the 35i?
