X5 40e battery management tips

Hello, 40e users out there; do you charge your battery to 100%?

The reason I'm asking is that Tesla recommends charging up to 80% and not to charge 100% unless you have longer trip to increase lifetime of the battery. I'm just curious to know if we charge 40e battery to 100% every night and use it during the day, will it have negative impact on battery and longevity? There's no official recommendation found in the User Manual in this regard as well.

Thanks in advance

Check out the other BMW forum. Seems there are more 40e owners there to comment

I charge mine to 100% all the time. I don't know of a way to stop it at 80% unless I would remember to unplug it, which would be very inconvenient, especially in the middle of the night. Maybe it could be done with a timer.

If it is detrimental to charge it to 100% I would think there would be some instructions from BMW. So far so good.

I know there are settings in idrive to change the speed and time when it charges. These are helpful for those that have variable electric rates to avoid higher prices during peak hours. However, I do not remember seeing an option to shut off at a particular percentage. I always charge to 100%.

Tesla has a significantly larger range. At 100%, the most I can get is 22 miles.

If we follow the conventional wisdom on the Tesla forums, then it's unwise to charge to 100%. And it's why Tesla probably enables owners to set charge levels. My understanding is that this isn't possible on the X5.

The other thing to consider is that for the Tesla, the battery is way bigger and way more expensive to replace. The battery IS the car. No battery, no car. The X5 isn't as reliant on the battery and the battery isn't as big. My guess is that charging to 100% will lead to quicker degradation but realistically speaking is a non-issue.
