My "new" X5 50i

So I’ve been reading this forum for about the past 6 months or so trying to decide if I wanted to pick up a used X5 or lease a new one. Having picked up a used 335is convertible a couple years ago, I knew I wanted to replace my Explorer Sport with an X5. Reading these forums, I knew I needed to find a X5 with DHP (thanks for the tip everyone!). I debated the 35i and the 50i, but eventually decided on the 50i as I didn’t really want to downsize my power coming from the Explorer. Well, after test driving used ones and new ones, my local dealer got a used one in last month and I literally got it before they even had pictures taken for it yet. I knew it was a special order for them as it only had driver’s packages added:

Carbon Black
M Sport
DHP
Adaptive Suspension
Cold Weather
Executive
469 rims

It is a 2015 with only 8,200 miles. I thought I hit the jackpot as this was all my must have options and I didn’t have to drive hundreds of miles to find it. However, it only got better. The original owner is perhaps my dealer’s best customer purchasing dozens of BMWs from them and trading them in every year. He likes to build them and modify them, then move on to his next project (he got an M5 competition package after selling this X5 and an M4 vert!). These were the mods he did to the X5 that I got at practically no cost:

Dinan Stage 1
M Sport Brakes
AC Schnitzer Exhaust
AC Schnitzer Springs
AC Schnitzer Front Skirt

The second the dealer told me it had all these upgrades, I was completely sold. I laugh every time I fire it up as it sounds so awesome and I can’t believe my luck!

Congrats for your new ride, you had definitely hit the jackpot, these mods would have cost you not less than $10k.
The only thing here is to keep your finger crossed for that 50i engine, you may end up replacing it as it has happened to my vehicle and also for other several members in this forum.
I wish you all the best with that beast.

Beautiful! Definitely an interesting build to say the least. Love that colour. And the "goodies" that came with it are a nice bonus. That front skirt as you describe it, that is a completely new bumper, right?

Yeah, I'm a little concerned about the engine life so I got the warranty out to 100k. Time will tell if it will be worth it.

Yes, it's a completely new number. Honestly, I can hardly notice a difference save for the front reflectors are gone, which is nice.

I personally think that's the beauty of the ACS front bumper. It looks OEM+ to me, as in, it could have come from the factory like that.

Oh I like it, would have never paid for it myself though. The ACS exhaust is perhaps my favorite mod, it sounds amazing.

Very nice car. I actually have my eye on pretty much all those mods. I hope you enjoy them. can you please clarify what your concerns about the engine are? Is this a common issue?

Other members can probably clarify the issues with the N63TU better than I can, but from what I've read, they're just not as reliable as BMW's straight sixes. Aside from complete engine failure, which some have posted about on here, it seems the biggest issues are burning oil (my SA actually gave me a quart of oil to keep in the car when I purchased it) and battery failures. I have my first oil change due in 6,000 miles, I'm curious to see if they replace the battery at the same time like it's reported they're doing now.

I figure if I have any issues, the Dinan tune will only accelerate the problem, but that's what the warranty is for!

Thanks very much for the reply. I also got the extended warranty but hopefully it doesn't come to that.
I have a similar base car to yours, same color but with the luxury line and cold weather package only (bought it used with 15,000 miles on the clock so no M sport or DHP which I would have liked)
How do you find the ride with the AC Schnitzer springs? And what kind of tires are you running?

Best Regards

You may refer to the below attached link, member "Kzang" thankfully had attached all the related links in one of the threads.

If it fails after 100k mile warranty...700hp Hellcat engine swap? Might have to cut a hole in the hood for the super charger and wheel tub it.

Unfortunately, I don't have much to compare it to as I only test drove a couple of other X5s for a short period of time so I don't have a good feel for what the stock setup is like. IMO, the lowered height looks a little better. I can say that the difference between comfort and sport with the adaptive suspension is very, very noticeable. Not sure how much the AC springs have to do with that.

I've got the stock Pirelli P Zero tires for the 469 rims. Since it was ordered with the optional spare tire, I'll not replace the tires with run flats when the time comes. Dropping the factory run flats on my 335is for Michelin pilot super sports last year was the best decision ever.

That sounds like a fantastic idea! By the time I hit 100k miles, there will be thousands of totaled Hellcats in the junkyard to snag an engine from, lol.

Congrats, beautiful combo. If you ever have plans for wheels let me know. I have a few sets in stock that would look great with your setup. Enjoy in good health.
