2016/2017 X5 owners - Is premium package useful?
I wanted to get the M Sport package instead of the premium package.
Wondering whether I will be missing some good features if I go without the premium package. The wireless charging function does not seem to be useful to me. |

The consensus across the board is that people love Comfort Access. I certainly do. The only way to get comfort access is with premium package. There are regular posts for people trying retrofit comfort access. It will cost you more than the premium package costs to retrofit.

Comfort access, garage door buttons and leather seats are worth the money for the package.

Your buying a luxury vehicle but won't have any feature that it's supposed to make it luxurious. I have the comfort access and it's helpful at times. Not sure how the U.S packages work but looks like in order to get other more useful options you will need to add the premium package first.

I get much more use out of Comfort Access and power mirrors (controlling windows/ mirrors with keyFOB or CA) than I do the Sports Package. I am not sure if the Sports suspension is being upgraded, but unlike in my F10, I find the M Sport package relatively aesthetic. My driving style and preferred mode tend to be different in my xdrive40e than 535i. I am happy to see the 469M Black rims, but also like the 451 whiles on the Luxury Line. The decision, if you must choose one, just comes down to which combination, the individual would use more. If you are someone who does not care about key-less entry and streams Pandora or uses USB music over satellite, then go for the Sports Package. It is just a shame that comfort access is not standard. |

I'm not sure about the X5 but on the X3, comfort access also provided the button on the liftgate that would lock all doors while lowering the gate. Extremely useful.
I have the premium package on my X5 and use the comfort access features all of the time. The sport package to me is more appearance based - you basically get a different standard wheel, the M steering wheel, and different aero trim (though I personally don't like the vents on the front bumper - way too big for my tastes). |

the only thing i find it useful is the keyless entry and ability to lock the car by closing the tailgate. Here in Canada, you have to get the Premium to get the MSport and that adds about almost $10000.

Comfort access is one of those things that once you've had it, you can never NOT have it. It should be standard on all cars and certainly one that cost 60K+

If you are on a budget and it was a toss up between comfort access which is included in the premium package or Msport line.. I'd choose Msport Line by a landslide.
But I agree with Alan... comfort access is one of those features where you need it after you have had it on your previous cars.

No. Leather is NOT standard on X5. You pay $1400~ for it. Cheap looking sensatec(?) is standard. And leather becomes standard when you tick off premium package along with 4 zone ac, comfort access, etc. So you end up getting comfort access and 4 zone ac for $1000+/-.
