Just placed an order for a 2017 X5. Dealer says remote start cannot be installed at the factory. Any idea when we will be able to add to our builds. My production date is week 48 which is last week of November. Any insight? any number I can call to find out?

can't see anything but ETK states 3hrs (or less depending on vehicle). pretty sure if ETK states 3hrs book they will bill 3hrs.

does anyone on here have the installation instructions? i am curious to see how intensive this installation process is.

I installed my last week. The biggest part was removing the glove box and right side trims on the carpet

Update

Quick update... dropped my car off at the dealership this morning for the remote starter install.... about 3 hours later I called to change the pickup time and was told that the car couldn't be ready until the end of the day TOMORROW. They claimed they "couldn't" order the key until they had the car in the shop.... If this was the case why would they make me wait two weeks for an all-day appointment!

My dealership (Seattle area) still investigating, how much they want to charge for installation (I asked three weeks ago). Saying next week they will decide.

Installation time from the installation instructions is indeed quoted at 1.5 hours. (PDF attached.) That said, my dealer said 1095 without key and 1395 with the third key. I'd be all over that 800 something quote posted earlier.

Appreciate the post! Are you able to replicate the command via the connected app?

No, the Connected app only allows for "ventilation"; for the remote start you need to use the key fob.

What's the estimated range of the standard key fob? Seems like a waste, I'll wait until the remote start is connected to the Connected App

Exactly. At home, it's in the garage, so doesn't do me much good there. Everywhere else, it means I can start it about 5 seconds before I'm gonna get to the car anyway. I would hope the Connected App functionality is in the works. If it is, I would hope it doesn't take very long... at this point, the infrastructure is in place, so it's just a mater of software tweeks.

I'm with you but even if the connected app never evolves, it was this bypass that viper couldn't figure out so they might be able to now install something in tandem. I wouldn't mind a 2 way alarm/remote starter/GPS abilities.

My wife just picked up a 2017 X5 with the OEM remote start, dealer installed. Cost us $1310 + tax.

Unfortunately it's not working consistently. It appears the vehicle gets the command from the key fob (it flashes the lights a few times) but we only got it to start one time from maybe twenty attempts. I'm pretty sure the dealer knew it wasn't working on delivery.

Has anyone else had issues with their unit? Just want to see if there's any info I should know before I call the dealer and complain.

Thanks,
Endaar

Finally decided I definitely want this; just ordered parts for arrival Friday, so likely will have it done by next week. Quoted price was $525 for system, $65 for betalink, $300 for new remote (including programming), total at $890+tax. Labor quoted at $160/hr, 3 hours so $480 for labor. Not cheap and I really wanted to do it myself or use an indy, but I really don't want me or my indy to F this up, so hopefully the labor is well spent.

EDIT:
After a couple days, finally got this installed on the 23rd. All is working well; there were some hiccups for the install due to new procedure for the dealer. I'm glad I didn't decide to undertake this myself because I think I would have F'd this up royally. Got a nice BMW CCA discount too—membership basically paid for itself over many times already.

Curious how bad this start/stop feature is on a ice cold engine. I can't see it being good or not having side-effects.
