2017 X5 50i with both M adaptive and air suspension?

Hi there,

Looking around at moving to a larger vehicle than my current 328i sportwagon.

I'm considering a '17 50i. The sticker reflects the vehicle is equipped with:

- M sport package [ZMP]
- Adaptive M Suspension [2VF]
- 3rd row + air suspension [4UB]

For sorting through the posts here, this seems to be an unusual configuration, unless I'm misintrepreting something, which is entirely possible.

With both 2VF and 4UB, does this mean the vehicle has adaptive M upfront and air suspension in the rear? If so, what kind of ride does this suspension combination provide? If not, can someone clarify for me?

Thanks!

I don't think this is very unusual, not that many people went with 3rd row seats in 50i but still possible:

Adaptive M suspension is rear air bags regardless of 3rd row or not.

All of those options come with rear air. You'll have full M Adaptive and Dynamic Handling all around.

Those options together is pretty uncommon. Most people looking for 3rd row aren't really concerned about suspension options, and even less are concerned about having both adaptive and dynamic. It took me a year to find my 35d with M Adaptive and Dynamic together. It was hard to even find M Adaptive.

I have DHP as a different option on mine. I forget the option number but it is different from the Air Suspension. It was an add-on to the M- Adaptive from what I recall. It helps in reducing body roll when cornering and comfort over rough pavements. At least that is my experience compared to ones I have driven in without DHP [including the new G05 X5)

Correct, you cant get DHP without M Adaptive, so if you order DHP specifically, M Adaptive will be automatically added.

3rd row comes with standard front suspension but rear air. Not sport tuned, not adjustable ride quality, just air bags in the rear to keep the ride level when you have people in the back.

M Adaptive comes with rear air and electronically adjustable rebound/dampening to adjust the ride and response in the shocks according to the driver mode selected.

DHP (Dynamic Handling Package) includes M Adaptive but adds electronically adjustable sway bars and differentials, and controls systems that continuously monitor the suspension and chassis and make micro-adjustments to maintain ride characteristics and performance for each driver mode.

After looking at this chart again 3rd row air might have the electronically controlled dampening afterall, but not the same as if it were M Adaptive.

This chart shows the differences in ride between the different suspension options. Purple dots are while in Comfort Mode, red dots are while in Sport Mode.

Great info, I never really understood the options. Wish I had DHP but love M Adaptive nonetheless.
