Sorry, stupid question re engines...

Apologies, I have looked elsewhere for a definitive but was unable to find.

My question is, do any of the F15 X5s have the B57 diesels engines, or are they all N57s?

TIA

AFAIK diesel F15 X5s all have N57 series engines that differ by number of turbochargers (up to 3). However, in the upcoming G05 X5s N57 is replaced with B57 (up to 4 turbochargers).

I know that the B57 is fitted to the 5 Series and new X3.

Thanks for the link. I’ve seen this before but suppose, by omission, on the lists shown all F15s must have been N57.

Are there other differences between them other than the number of turbos?

Maybe diesel guys can chime in (you can also ask at F10/F01 forum - they have more diesel guys there). I know that biggest difference is number of turbines - the rest is pretty much same. Of course to support more boost - the fuel rail system and injectors etc. are a bit modified too, probably different DDE (ECU) as well. Top versions with 3-4 turbos also might have some forged internals to support more power. But in general it's same 3.0l block engine that basically has different versions of power output using different number of turbines.
To put it simply it's same engine, but it's "bolt-ons" that make it different from the factory.

N57 is been phased out the b57 is in the new 540d been in the US we don’t get the tri or quad turbo setup that the m50d gets, the b57 all we have is the single twinscroll turbo, that pumps out 265hp and 457lb/ft

That's sad man. I can feel that those diesel BMW engines have tons of tune potential. They can be abused a lot more than our V8s as diesels are more stout. On the other hand - maybe it's good that we don't have them (top versions) in US/Canada as I can imagine some not so legal things that the owners do to tune them - basically they become equivalent to a coal mine in 1 mile radius.
