X5 35d (had) disappeared from BMWUSA website

I just noticed this today, BMWUSA seems to have removed xDrive35d from the build....the diesel option has disappeared. I have been building 2017 diesel half a dozen times now until last week and if I click on one of the existing builds (from my email), it gives a message "The model you requested is not currently available. " Any idea what is going on? I hope BMW did not get rid of the diesel, have they?

The last time I spoke to my dealer, I was told the build will start end of Dec. I will talk to him tomorrow and find out if there are any changes. 328d and 535d still available to build though.

That is interesting since I was just on the site a couple days ago looking at this vehicle. I actually placed an order for one last month. I guess I will have to call and see if they are still producing them or not.

I have ordered one too, but given that the vehicle is no more listing in the website not sure if the orders will go through anymore. I was surprised to find this.

Could it be that diesels are too much trouble with the emissions to deal
with right now.

I am going to email my CA and see what I can find out regarding if orders will be completed or not. I know when we ordered they were trying very hard to push the X540e. Not interested in the vehicle at this time and how much will it cost when it is time for battery replacement. Also disposal or recycling of battery materials is a big factor that the environmental types don't really consider.

Just checked, the X3 28d is gone also. The only diesels that remain are the 328d and 535d. I am worried now because I was thinking of replacing my X3 with a 28d.

Maybe, but the 328d and 535d still exist on the website. These vehicles share their engines with the X3 and X5 diesels. Only the X3d and X5d are gone. Also, the 328i changed to the 330i because the engine changed from an N20 to a B48.

Does this mean my 35d just went up in value?!?!? Haha.

I checked with a dealer here in socal and they believe that you can still order a X5 35d with a production date of Jan 2017. Not sure how much to believe in this, will have to call BMW franchise and find out if they can shed some light. It is surprising to see BMW remove both X5 and X3 diesels, just after this from EPA

Looks like seller's market for sure.. On the flip side, if you are trying to sell your 35d and if BMW has decided to discontinue, then it could be buyer's market .

Its more to do with the Volkswagen scandal that is making EPA scrutinize diesel certifications. Although BMW seems to have passed all tests, they need additional approvals (besides EPA), before production can start for North American market.

Fyi, my dealer in Pennsylvania until just recently, maybe a month or so ago, had a NEW 2015 x35d still in stock!!! I asked salesman and he said nobody wanted it. Sad.

Checked with my dealer today. All needed approvals have been completed as of the end of August.

The "diesel" option will return to the build-your-own section of the BMWUSA website in less than a month.

That whole VW fiasco was a scam; those little TDI's we're not a pollution problem compared to other vehicles new and old on the road today. So it's game over for diesel; would love to have seen hybrid diesels on the road. As a daily I'm thoroughly enjoying the x5d and plan to keep it for 10 years like I did with my E class CDI.

Interesting. Wonder why they removed it in the first place? Did your dealer had any idea as to when the actual production starts?

Production is to resume in November.
First vehicles to be available shortly thereafter. People with the earliest allocations could, theoretically, pick up at the factory through PCD, as long as delivery slots are available.

Where are you getting your info; my CA is telling me he has not received any word, even with an inquiry to regional.

One of the topics brought up during last weeks "town hall" conducted online by 4 BMWNA VPs for the benefit of dealer principles, as well as managers. CAs were not involved.

Thanks....I figure the building of the motors were being held in Europe pending approvals in case any changes needed to be made so likely some 8 to 10 weeks at least before Spartanburg has diesels to put in any car.

Still curious as to why they would pull all but the 3 series off the USA configurator.

The diesel in the X5 is made in Austria.
