I called BMW main franchise number and asked them about 2017 X5 diesel and their response was, the production won't start until Jan 2017. They also gave me an indication that X7 might be coming next year. Atleast for now it looks like 35d won't start until early 2017.

Has anyone heard any news on when the 2017 X5 diesel will go into production for the US?

Allocations came out last week and my CA tells me none were released so it will likely be December for January builds, but nothing firm from BMW corporate, just speculation.

At this rate, starting to think I should just wait for the G series.

I have an order in the order bank for a 17 X5d (no prod #)...at the time I put it in, the dealer was able to select late Dec, Jan, or Feb production. My guess is that allocations will come out next month for production starting in the last part of Dec/first of Jan.

This must be one of the most least environmentally vehicles made by BMW, at least for UK/EU buyers

So, they make the engines and transmissions in Germany/Austria and then road or rail freight them up to a German port to be loaded onto a boat to be shipped over to the USA to be installed in vehicles at Spartanburg, for the completed vehicles to be then shipped back to EU ......

That probably consumes more resources and emits more emissions that the vehicle will in its lifetime

Well they're likely not only shipping these, they're shipping every single engine they make, so it's not that bad...

I mean, would you rather they made these engines in the US?!

I got a call from a dealer yesterday saying that they got notified by BMW franchise that the first allocation for 35d will be available sometime in Dec for a production date in Jan '17. Couple of months more to wait and am going have to wait, but atleast looks like 35d is coming back afterall. I will post more details when the production number gets allocated.

Nice to know that the wait is paying off for you.
The next 2 months will fly by.

Just spoke with my dealer, who confirmed that they did not get any allocations for January, however some dealers received one (and only one). This confirms what some others had been hearing, as well. Looks like I'll be waiting on Feb allocations.

I will mourn the demise of the diesel, just s I'm mourning the demise of the manual transmission.

I'm confident that the D's will be rolling off the production line destined for the North American market after the first of the year.

In the meantime I'm enjoying putting the miles on mine. Most recent trip of 7400 miles returned a 34 mpg average.

They are building them for 2017. As was mentioned earlier, there is a very limited number of allocations for Jan (17 across the US).

I have one of them on order w/ a week 4 build & production number.

I hope BMW keeps building the X5 35d and selling it in the US for years to come. My 2014 is the 7th family vehicle (SUV/SAV) I've owned, and it is by far the best. The efficiency and driveline flexibility are unmatched. The torque is magical when passing someone on a two lane road.

VW has given this technology such a bad rap that I don't think I'll ever buy one of their products -ever.

I'm going to buy out the lease on my current one and hope they offer a diesel option on the next generation. The diesel powertrain makes me feel like I don't need to shop other brands for my family vehicle. Without it, I'd have to consider other options.

Anyone seen Feb allocations hit dealer systems yet? I am waiting on one, figured they should be getting them any day now.

Glad yours are getting built. Wonder why BMWUSA hasn't put the X5d back on the website if production is going to resume for the US market.

I haven't read the full thread, but this hiccup has happened every year when the calendar year rolls since VW dieselgate. The delays are related to emissions testing and getting approval from regulator IIRC.

Subscribed to this as my current X5d lease ends in April. Was thinking getting X5m but just can't get good lease deal I would be comfortable paying so might just get back to X5d again.
