For those that ordered M3awesome's winter setup, are those RFTs or not? About to order the same. I like the look.

Hi. I'm in the process of buying winter tires + rims. I plan to buy after market rims + Pirelli scorpion winter 275/40/20. The rims come in 10 inch and 11 inch options. What width size should I purchase for the front and back to ensure best fitment of the 275/40/20 and to ensure the wheel sit correctly. (not too far in and not stick out of the car).
Here is the link to the rims: http://www.gtswheels.com/wheels/e604.html Thanks. |

19" won't fit
I had a 2012 X6 with 19" factory BMW wheels and continental snow tires, just purchased a 2016 x6M and the 19" are a no go. The thread that said the front calipers won't clear is 100% verified. I have 21" on the new x6M and BMW fit me with 20" tires and wheels for 6k. I can't justify 6k, in addition to the price of the car, purchased a winter car instead. I have my 19" for sale, they have a lot of thread and were great winter tires, if anyone is interested.

Mine are eBay replicas, sorry don't have the brand though. Tires and tpms brought the total to around $2300. Happy so far... The dry road ride is excellent and the wheels fit perfectly. Thanks for the nice comments.

Those Conti DWS06 (new gen) look even better! wow
I have the (1st gen) DWS on all year long haha, its very comparable to BMW OEM Winter RFT in winter conditions.

They look great. Do you have the tire sizes you installed on those? If my OEM ones don't come next week as promised I am gonna cancel the order and do the same. Would love an all black version of those. Do you have the seller info and wheel specs? Thanks!

Hey all - new to these boards having just purchased a '16 X5M. Living in Westchester Co. NY, wondering if I REALLY need a dedicated winter set of wheels/tires after reading through this thread. I have the option of working from home if the snow is sketchy, but would still like to be able to get about. Don't have a long commute either. Will I be stuck with the stock Michelin PSS 21"? I've got the tire/wheel insurance, so at least the monster potholes are less of a concern... thx

my wheels came from eBay seller wheelmotioninc, search for x6m and they should come up. btw, they don't show the bmw center cap or M logo, but each wheel came with 4 of them-plenty of spares! :-)
dws06 tire sizes, front 275/45zr20, rear 315/35zr20. wish they were a little taller... 285/335 would have been better (listening conti???) these are minutely smaller than my 21s overall. no real snow yet (1/4"-really?) so still no real opinion there. wet road traction is really great, even near 32 degrees F. the ride is smooth as glass-these give a very similar feel to the 21" PSS summers. still deciding on noise...hard to tell. this car is so much noisier inside than my infiniti... As for riding on the 21" PSS in winter...well *I* wouldn't even take it out of the driveway with those shoes in cold weather, (near or below freezing) snow, ice, or not...it's just not worth the risk to the ride, or me, or anyone else i may slide into. summer tires get really hard at these temps. |

Regarding winter tires, I would highly recommend you picking up a set of winter wheels/tires. Not only are they superior in the snow and ice to our Michellin PSS tires, they are also much more effective in temperatures below 40 degrees. If you drive with the stock tires during the winter months, you will find that you have considerably less traction.

I also slapped DWS on my current ride last November and drove through all this past winter snow even Feb 21st (Big Snow Storm Day) 94 miles on the turnpike making my own way/lane (3rd lane) at 75mph to make it home since every other lane was slow and throwing snow on each other. My X3 has 19's and I got 245/45-19 DWS so i don't think the 20's will big any worse. I have nothing but amazing reviews for this tire in the Wet and Snow weather. I suspect DWS06 are just even better and if you should consider it for an all year long tire.
