2015/2016 X5M owners: How is cabin noise?

it seems like reviewers tend to agree that cabin noise in this car is higher than it should be in a six figure ride, but maybe that was the 2010 model. how have you found cabin noise on the highway?

I don't find there to be any more noise than there was in my F15 X5. In fact, the X5 M to me is even quieter, owing partly to the standard non-run flat tires.

Yesterday I had several colleagues in the car driving from Palo Alto to San Francisco and back. All of them commented how compliant and comfortable the ride was, and how quiet the car was overall in Comfort modes. They also know about my tune and other mods.

Even putting the car into Sport Plus and giving a few of them whiplash, they still came away pretty impressed at how versatile the car is and that's exactly why I bought it.

Reviews are always subjective. For me, I always take away the numbers and performance data since I have no real way of replicating their real world tests on my own. Everything else - from ride quality to noise to fit/finish - I evaluate myself (if I can) on a test drive, friend's vehicle, or otherwise.

i have an F15 x5 msport 50i....with GTHAUS Catback exhaust and BMS tune....car had elevated cabin noise from the start...had to drown it out with exhaust sounds haha

drove my mothers new GMC denali...unbelievably silent in any condition.

i attribute to soft close doors, not closing tight enough....insufficient weather stripping seals... airflow dynamics.

Garage List
See below. Having also owned both, couldn't agree more.

For what it's worth, my wife likes the ride (comfort) in my X5M more than her boss' RR Ghost -- though she likes the hand stitched leather in the RR more.

I find mine quiet and don't find the ride rough at all.
If someone is complaining about cabin noise in this thing, I think that's BS.

Maybe it is different from vehicle to vehicle but I am noticing a lot of wind noise up front. Nothing the B&O system can't drown out but if I'm enjoying the exhaust and engine noises (radio muted) they are accompanied by the wind noise.

I'll have the door/window seals checked at the 1,200 service.

The only cabin noise is the ASD, pumping engine sound through the speakers when the windows are rolled up. You can code this off if you don't like engine sound. I've owned 2 E70s, these are quieter (minus ASD).

Is there a simple, non-coding way to mute ASD temporarily on a F85, just to listen to the difference?

There might be a fuse that you could pull out, you can search the F10 M5 forum to see how they remove the fuse to disable ASD. It was a hot topic when the M5 came out with ASD, M owners were furious. M owners were also furious about turbos and now they have a big smile on their face when the right foot is down.

FYI: Coding is very easy, I wrote a thread on it on this forum if you're interested in learning.

I believe m5 owners were also simply unpluggjng the asd module in their trunks. That seems easy.

Many thanks! Where may I look for your coding thread?

Are the software modules US oriented or will these work equally well on an Euro car?

After 1100 miles with the ASD off, I can safely say that this car is pretty quiet in the cabin. Snow tires probably aren't helping much, but there is a distinct drone in the very low part of the RPM range; press on the gas a bit and it is gone.
