Anyone have CQuartz Finest or Modesta on their X5/6M?

Would love to see some pics of anyone who has treated their vehicles with these coatings.

I am doing a test run with a local detailer on my i3 using CQF. If it works out, I will probably have them do it to my X5M upon delivery.

I have CQuartz Finest on mine. It like rained one day later and I wasn't able to get any good pics w/ the DSLR. But for what it's worth, here's a phone pic I did take.

The firm that did the coating took a better picture but it's trapped in this facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/autowerxdet...type=3&theater

Going to putting on BLACKFIRE Crystal Seal. Have it on the 640 at the moment, paint looks super wet and the coating has lasted since I first put it on (April 2014). I use Optimum Car Wax after a wash and that's it.

how did you like them? thats who ive been talking to. seems like they know their stuff, but google maps makes it look like it is run out of someones home...which makes me worry about trusting them with such an expensive vehicle.

seems with cqf, you arent supposed to wax? sounds good to me.

im beginning to wonder if all the ceramic coatings are just made by one company and then rebranded. so many options to do the same job!

Many of the ceramic coatings can get ruined with wax. 22PLE for example, you shouldn't use any kind of quick wax/detailer because it can ruin the coating.

Cquartz, Gtechniq, Opticoat, and any other coating are all different when it comes to layering on quick wax/detailer. I like the Crystal Seal because you can coat a whole car less than 15 mins, but you can layer quick wax over it, and the coating gets a boost.

Seattle has two premium detailers; Metropolitan Detail and Northwest Auto Salon. Metropolitan Detail uses 22PLE and NWAS uses Gtechniq. 22PLE needs to be baked on and cured, while Gtechniq doesn't need to be.

What are you guys talking about in terms of price? It seems like the prices are all over the place, depending on your market. I've seen quotes for CQF around $600 in major markets like LA but then hear about guys paying north of $1400 in some locations for the same treatment.

I'm just trying to get my bearings on what is a reasonable price to pay.

Also, for the guys that got the nano-protectant AND PPF (like XPEL), did you have it done at the same time? I can see the natural benefit of getting paint correction done once, but are there advantages to waiting?

Thanks.

Where are you located? If you're in the LA area, you should be looking around $1400-1600 for full front Xpel, and around $500-700 for a coating.

You should get everything done at once. Before they apply the paint protection, they do a stage one polish to remove any swirls, and then lock in the paint with the coating.

I'm looking at $1300 to do my i3, no xpel. They won't be removing factory wraps, but will be doing a full paint check and correction before applying the CQF.

Quote:
Interior and exterior protective wraps are carefully removed.
Carpets and upholstery are protected with High-Tech fabric coating.
Leather surfaces are treated with CQuartz Leather coating.
Exterior is unwrapped, carefully washed, decontaminated and polished to perfection (single-step finishing polish).
Wheel faces are coated with CQuartz DLUX high-temp ceramic wheel coating.
Windshield is treated with FlyBy Forte extreme anti-abrasion, hydrophobic glass coating (x3 coats).
Side windows and rear window is treated with FlyBy30 hydrophobic rain repellent coating.
Plastic trim is protected with CQuartz DLUX translucent, satin finish, high-solids, hydrophobic coating.
Quite a bit of work here. A full detail, inside and out, plus coating most interior and exterior surfaces.

Should run about $1400 for the X5M. Going to have XPEL put on there.

I'm not in LA (currently) but am looking to do full front XPEL plus some other areas. The $500-700 is in the ballpark of what I expect for a coating.

Agreed on getting it done at once.

How soon after taking delivery do you get this done? Should it be straight from the dealer to the wrapper?

If you have a good detailer, tell the dealership to do PDI and just remove the protective material and not to detail it. Less chances of swirls or anything else, and then take it to get it detailed/wrapped.

Do it as soon as possible. You can even ask your dealer to leave the factory wraps on the car.

I'm going dealer -> detailing / paint prep -> wrap -> coating.

You can skip the detailing part if you like how the paint looks upon delivery, but I would rather have the experts check it before wrapping.

Good thing about BMW Portland is that they actually do a really great job detailing.

I was quite pleased with the detailing they did on my i3. Gave me a great discount due to the lack of engine...

(Most Interesting Man voice) I am afraid, my friend, that you will not be able to use this same explanation with your X5 M.

In fact, given the ABUNDANCE of engine, feel lucky that you do not have to pay twice!

Just got a quote on XPEL Ultimate wrap for the X5M:

Quote:
Front Bumper, Full Hood, Full Fenders, Headlights, Mirrors, Top of Rear Bumper, Door Edges, and Door Cups - $1,995

Full vehicle - $5,995
Plus $1,500 for pre- and post-wrap detailing and coating.

Aside from the full wrap costing 6 grand, apparently it requires dis-assembly! That's enough to scare me off. Sounds like there's enough chance of rattling in the car without having someone take it apart...

$1,500 for detailing and coating? Sounds pretty expensive for the detailing part.

I agree. I think the $1,995 for the XPEL is actually pretty good, but $1,500 for detailing and coating?
