Even though this isn't a case of "badginitis" as I like to call it, I had to do a triple take the other day when I saw an "Active Hybrid 3". There was the long badge on the trunk, but there were also the same ones right behind the C-pillars, which made think it was indeed a bad case of badging fever, but upon looking it up on the interwebs, all the badges are stock! Yuck!!!!
I think I've mentioned this little tidbit before, but there's a guy at work who drives a ~2009 Accord and he replaced the front "H" emblem in the grille with.... [drumroll] a Mustang PONY! He also added those little deer whistles below each headlight, which takes the cake. Not gonna post the pic though to protect the (not-so) innocent.

starting to see this more and more around town.
I don't really lose any sleep over it, but it is ridiculous that there are people out there that make a conscious effort to mislead complete strangers. People that do this must be extremely insecure. I can't fathom any other reason someone would go through the process of lying to themselves... because ultimately, anyone who knows the significance of the ///M badge knows that this is fraudulent, and those who have no idea that this is not a true ///M would not notice the difference, so this is a wasted attempt of boasting.

I saw a bare bones model 5 on a flat bed the other day. It had the M badge. Smh. I just don't get it.
People that don't know, don't care. People that do know find it distasteful. Seems like a no win situation. |

I totally appreciate where you are coming from, but those of us with M-Sport models that belittle others for adding ///M badges or stickers are walking a fine line of hypocrisy considering that there are ///M badges plastered all over our M-Sports despite the fact that they are not "true" ///M cars. I didn't choose the M-Sport model because I wanted everybody to think I was driving an ///M car, I purchased it because I really liked the styling and sportiness.
For this reason I choose to view it more as a form of flattery than a form of deception, in the same way that sports fans wear their favorite team's jerseys to the big game. We all know that they don't actually play for that team. |

I understand what you're saying, and agree to an extent.
I too ordered the M Sport package when building my car. I wanted the aggressive styling because of the " personality " I wanted my car to portray. I could have ordered a true X6M, but that extra 12K would have been wasted money due to the fact that my 50i is already WAY over powered for 90% of my commuting in a typical high population traffic environment. So I got the model that pleases me aesthetically, while not having a caged animal frustrated in conditions that simply don't fit it's true potential. So all of us who frown upon these frauds is only pointing out that this is an example of someone purposely trying to mislead only the ignorant. Most of us who ordered M Sport packages are just people who realized that spending extra money on Horse Power that is useless in most traffic conditions, however appreciate the styling of an aggressive looking vehicle. Still totally different than physically adding badges to our cars that never belonged in the first place.

a question regarding this.... is there a otion of a real proper X5 M .......with comfort seats?
saw this few times, all looked like a proper real X5M but the seats, those were not the "race bucket seat type" but proper civil comfort seat. is that possible combo? |

Yes, it is different.. you see. When people add the ///M beside the car's model emblem of the back of the car as you see them on real M's, you are portraying and trying to deceive themselves and others that they are driving a $100K car.

If it's coming from the factory, it's authentic. If it's a sticker added after the fact it's not. Personally, I'm all for modifications. And to each their own. But I try to keep my mods in line with the car Ive bought. Meaning, I'm not going to install a mod that makes the car look like something it's not. But I do fully support each person doing what is right for them. And fwiw, I barely want to mod my 50i M Sport. Im really quite happy with it. I do like the pics of the blacked out exhaust pipes though. |

In all honesty, I'm willing to bet the owner doesn't even have any clue what that ///M badge means. He probably saw the badge on another M car and thought it looks cool and copied it. I'm also willing to bet that he doesn't know what a M car is. If he did, he would have removed the xDrive 35i emblem on the side, blacked out the side window trim and other subtle mods to make it look more like a M car.

OMG... Sorry, folks. I am not sure what is the fuss is about. Just like i reserve my right to de-badge my car ( i prefer cleaner look), i totally think that if one wants to add ///M, then be it. Overall this is his / her car. I think to mock the owner and calling it the worst of the worst...is a bit too much. Pease)))
