RaceChip XLR Install
Thanks r33_RGSport for another delivery, and another mod.
RaceChip XLR w/app control to be stacked onto the RaceChip GTS Black w/app control. The install is very simple and easy, difficulty level 1. You’ll need a T30 and a T20 to complete the install. You really only need a T30, the T20 is optional. It can be done in 15-20 minutes easily. It is also a great opportunity to clean in places you normally don’t. No matter how clean you are, there is some dirt hiding under/around the pedal! Since I purchased the model with app control, there is no need to install the controller. I chose not to install it, I’ll just use the app. I tested all 7 settings with the RC GTS Black turned off, then all 7 with it turned on and in Race mode. There are 2 Eco modes, I don’t ever use Eco mode and couldn’t notice any difference in the pedal response. You notice a difference when you start using the Sport mode. In the end, I prefer the XLR in Race and the GTS Black in Race mode, with the X5 in Sport. The performance is unreal. I used the T20 to remove the panel and route the wire. I placed the module inside the panel where the brake pedal comes out of. Vehicle: F15 35i xDrive with MPE, MPPK, RC GTS Black and RC XLR.

Throttle response is so critical to a sportier drive. It’s whats putting me off pulling the trigger on Bootmod3 as general comments are that there is no improvement to throttle response from stock with the tune.
To me a tune is as much about application as it is about power. Ideally a tune should be; Throttle response + Transmission shift points + Transmission shift firmness + Power + Torque. |

I've been using it for a while too, I use Sport on the XLR and Race on the GTS Black.

I used this on my MB C class and it was OK. I am wondering what is the main difference that you felt with it on the X5?

let me get this straight... this basically remaps the throttle pedal so that, instead of lets say, the stock throttle map at 1" pedal travel gives u 25% throttle, this makes it so that at 1" travel gives u 50% throttle... and at how much does this thing costs?

It does help quite a bit to control the turbo lag which to me was the big plus for such a system. You have to be careful though cuz too high can leave you a bit uneasy by giving you a very jerky throttle. I have to make sure I always turn it down before my wife drives it so she doesn't yell at me asking what I've done! I was actually able to hide this purchase and install from her for about 6 months given it was so quick and easy and I did a decent job hiding the controller. Until she saw this little dongle last week that was lit up and asked me what it was. Haha But I will second violator. Super easy install whether you go RC or SB.

Highly unlikely. This is just a throttle remap. Pressing less is like pressing more previously. It's just an illusion of more power, but an effective one.
Engine tune would be necessary to potentially increase power at the bottom end. Unrelated to throttle mapping, but would give more response and speed. |

I don't think it reduce the turbo lag.
It will reduce your pedal lag response from pressing to where the engine actually react to your input. It is hard to explain. The best illustration that I always tell my customers, it is like the icing on a cake. Without the icing, the cake still good. With the icing, it is better. Unless if you are diabetic.
