'floating' LED strip on the LED headlights

I was wondering why the 'floating' strip on the X5 for the LED headlamps does not light up in amber like on the 5 or the X6. does anyone know? This is the strip that runs from the outer bigger angel eye to the crease on the side of the headlamp.

The bar that becomes the turn signal on the LED headlamps do you mean?

Anyone find the irony that the headlights are at the top of this post?

From the manual it identifies your referenced item as the Turn signal/side marker light

no, the turn signal is up top (the 'eye-brow'). It is usually white and doubles as an amber turn signal

The strip did not light up amber. I did not see it light up white maybe because it was daylight. It should light white at night.

The owners manual references the strip as turn signal indicator.

This strip lights up on the non led headlight. The signal light bulb on the non led lights up the strip.

Not for sure on the X5s, but on my M5 it is also for side illumination when you put on turn signals or sharply turn wheels. Test it out.. stay parked 90 degrees to a driveway and turn on the turn signal.. then increase the wheel all the way over in that direction. Watch how much the lights move around even though the car isnt. The new headlights on BMWs are frigging amazing and you dont really conciously notice how much extra light they throw out depending on where you are going.

If you have an X5 with ADAPTIVE highbeam LED headlights, you should look into having the US spec limitations turned off... then they be even more amazing.
