So driving to work this morning coming off the on ramp giving it a little juice not much I got this shudder felt like slippage and then a bunch of alarms and a CEL stayed on. So did the shudder every time I would accelerate. And accelerate only. I set the cruise control at 70 and it was semi fine. Anyway was close to work so just kept going and wondered if if would go away once I got there. And sure enough after sitting for several hours it was gone shudder and all! I checked the errors via BimmerLink and I had a few but I also did some coding the night before (nothing that woulda caused this) and BimmerLink is all in German so I didn't see anything blaring.

So Wtf!

How many miles?

Probably spark plugs. I had the same exact thing. Had the plugs replaced and everything is good to go.

Apparently there is a BMW bulletin to have the spark plugs replaced at 60k miles. Mine went bad around 70k. In the same bulletin, they also listed new part numbers for replacement plugs.

30450. Thanks for the reply but pretty sure this isn't spark plugs. The shudder isn't from the engine it was coming from rear end

You read my recent thread? I thought the same thing. Replaced the plugs and all is well.

Well I would be shocked at 30k miles but maybe. But like I said it was the only time and it hasn't come back since. Just a really weird experience. And with the CEL cleared I can't look at it. So will have to wait till it comes back.

+ on sparkplugs, especially if all were not changed, mine went to 40k kms, so barely 25k miles. racechip might have had something to do with it. I also had 2 ignition coils that were found to have a lot of carbon on inspection and changed.

My plugs were just replaced at 35k due to the same exact on ramp, acceleration CEL and into limp mode. I ran the codes and it was misfires on #1 and #5. Dealer replaced. Drives like a new now and even better with the new bm3 tune. Your Racechip will expedite the wear on the plugs.

Roger that. Just wish I didn't clear the codes as quickly as I did. I was just trying to get out of limp mode so I could make it to work. And ya kinda not happy about the RC potentially being the cause as I've only had it on for 10k miles or so. How would this foul them up? I would expect bad fuel etc. I didn't think the RC would cause the car to run rich or anything.

Take it into the dealer since it could be number of issues.

Yes I did. And I'm gonna hold off until it happens again since I deleted the codes they would read. All they're gonna tell me is "idk"

Not even that, they are probably the original factory plugs just like mine were. Plugs get old, fouled, etc. on there own in any engine, let alone the n63tu. Coming from my days of a tuned n54 engine, running it harder in any capacity is sure to wear them faster. In fact, I probably changed mine every 5-6k miles just to keep everything firing in peak condition. Compare that to factory where they want them to last to 45k-60k miles. That alone is kinda unrealistic.

I had an RC on for about 2 months of the whole time I had my 50i before I just recently did the Bootmod stage 1 flash. My plugs went out really on a stock engine so it can happen and your RC is not the culprit. Even when I had the RC, i did notice it was really close to going into limp mode. I knew then the plugs were on their way out. If you have been tuning, you know what it will feel like about to misfire and throw a CEL.

It has run so strong since then. Really strong since Bm3.

Ya BM3 is in the future. Just can't justify the insane cost right now. I have been noticing some sputtering in wot with my RC. Only when I goose it though. It feels like I'm going over tiny bumps in the road. Thought it felt weird.

Yep. That is the symptom. Regular driving you are fine but WOT or in the 3500 to 5000 range. It can also rear its ugly head when you are in a high gear and start to accelerate.

If you have any warranty left, remove the RC. Depending on plug condition, it may or may not still do it. Trust me they eventually will in stock form but it may take longer to get it to throw a code. Once it does, you can take it to the dealer and tell them you misfired and think a plug is bad.

BM3 tuned here as well and having the same spark plug issue. I cleared the codes but had a misfire on cylinder 5 and a few other codes. Last time I brought it to the dealer my SA asked if I had plugged anything into the OBDII port. I wasn't aware that they could see that so I just said I had been playing around with some coding. If it's an easy fix, I was thinking of just changing them myself. Anyone have a part# and the recommended gap?

I had spark plug issues twice. And it's acting up again. Car shudders in mid-throttle acceleration. No other issues otherwise (at 38k miles).

Finally got the CEL to pop again today. Got some pics of the errors in BimmerLink and none of it makes sense. Anyone help my rusty non existent German lol. Wish they would just make this in English in the apps! I still hesitFe to believe it's the misfiring. Truth is I get a bit of vibration under wot almost all the time which may attribute to it. But this seems to happen when slightly in a turn or something. And then it gets this massive vibration until the cel goes away. Once I turn the car off or clear the codes the vibration stops completely!

Also I know not all of these are from this situation. For example the NBT error is always there for me. Been there awhile and never seem to be able to clear it.
