Full Size Spare, anyone?

BIMMERPOST
     Featured on BIMMERPOST.com
I would like to know if there are any X5 owners driving around with a full size spare 18" instead of the donut size? I feel more comfortable putting a full-size spare vs a donut on this vehicle. Is there enough room in the back for one or is it meant only for a donut size?

Thanks in advance!
Jeffrey

kinda dangerous to have a heavy wheel laying back there. what if you get in an accident?

do you have a donut now? do you get flats that often to worry about this?

Plenty of cars come with full size spares but I don't think it fits in the spare tire compartment

Garage List
Takes up the whole trunk. Makes no sense to carry around.

You don't get flats everywhere I hope.

I have RFT and Donut space saver for extra peace of mind. I often go to National park where sometimes 100 miles radius with no shop can be found. Full size spare do not make sense since it take up most of the cargo room and it is not safe to lay around.

If you currently just have the storage area under the "trap door", do you need some other kit to convert it to accept the "Emergency Wheel/Tire Set"?

Thanks, I may go that route even though I hate to give up the storage. When I evacuated Florida headed to North Carolina for hurricane Irma, I was worried what if I get a flat with the RF's but can't find a place open (everything was shutting down) to replace it. I had two dogs in the X5 and was by myself with no hotels with vacancy's. Didn't want to spend several days on the side of the road somewhere for days.

Option 300 Space Saver Spare the best and cheapest of all options when ordering and I order it every time.

On certain longer trips to more remote areas I carry a full size spare. The "safety" issues are easily mitigated by using appropriate load straps attached to the tie down points. Around town / 50 mile radius I count on the rfts to do their job or know I can get help. I do have the space saver option on board for trips in between - so most all options covered depending on the journey I take.

With the state of society today, one of the last things I want to deal with is being "flat tire" stranded on some desolate road at 10:00 pm - that is a concern that can be eliminated.
