3 hours with help from a buddy. We weren’t in any hurry so it could definitely be done quicker.

Good to hear there is a cheaper hitch option then invisihitch. I'm searching for a bike rack solution only so do not need the electronics. Has anyone heard of ecohitch? They have a stealth solution as well and its priced at $400. I shot them an email about m-sport bumper fitment but they could not guarantee that it would fit. They only test fitted on a standard bumper. Does anyone know if there will be clearance issues between the standard bumper (as shown in links) and msport?

I actually bought this hitch months ago.
To answer your question... I'd say it will fit MSport bumper covers just fine, with NO cutting needed. If you look at the underside of the cover, there's already a half-moon cut-out.
Now, to qualify my comment... I never actually installed it and had to return it for a refund.
I was literally at a local, trusted shop called Rack Attack to get it installed. The technician routinely installs the Curt/Hidden hitches on X5s, but wanted to triple check everything with Torklift so went to the website while I was standing there. For some reason, they've now added a note in red: "Temporarily not compatible with X5s that have rear parking sensors."
I called Torklift prior to purchase (months prior) and they confirmed fitment and no such note was on the website.
When I called to get an RMA, the agent could not answer why that note was there now. I can't imagine the reinforcement bar physically interferes with the sensors or wiring. Their install vid shows a car with sensors IIRC. So, I wonder if it's a statement to address complaints from people who said the sensors keep going off after they have the rack loaded with bikes or a trailer, not knowing coding is needed for trailer wiring or that they need to disable the sensors via the button next to the shifter?
Either way, the note is still there right now, so they haven't resolved it yet. You might want to call them back and specifically ask about it.
I may still go back to the EcoHitch this summer or may just stick with the Hidden Hitch and live with the visible receptacle.

My best guess is that note is there because they do not offer the electronics with the kit so the car cannot determine there is something attached to the hitch, thus it can't disable the backup sensors.

I'll reach out to EcoHitch to confirm and report back.

Is there a physical size difference between the m-sport and standard bumpers? My greatest concern is that the m-sport bumper will hang lower and get in the way of the receiver.

AFAIK, there is no height difference. MSport is just a "one piece" sportier design. I had previously found exact side-by-side pics of the two bumpers and decided for myself there was no noticeable difference I could see so went ahead with the purchase.

I just finished installing my Stealth Hitch this weekend. Finally found a free weekend, where it wasn't below 35F here in MI. Install went pretty smooth going solo. Instructions from Stealth Hitch were good, along with review a few online videos(any hitch demo is fine, because it's all about tearing the bumper apart). Biggest pain were the hidden body panel clips and that damn rear sensor connector clip! I haven't had it coded yet, but this is included with the purchase, using codemycar. Wont tow anything significant for a few more months, so we shall see how she performs.

Coding is just for the different camera mode that focuses straight down at the hitch ball. which you can add yourself with BimmerCode.

Stealth Hitch is a great hitch. That's what I installed this time! I like it better than the Invisihitch I had on by last one!

This thread was helpful, I think I am going to move ahead on the Steath Hitch. Have you guys found it necessary to go with the Active Harness option? Sounded like the best way to go, but was expensive.

I'm getting my Stealth Hitch installed this week, but opted to go with the factory harness. Dealership is installing and both the mechanic and the parts guy are really excellent to deal with, so I try to support them when I can.

But, if you plan to haul a trailer with electric brakes, you should consider the harness from Stealth. The Stealth harness has wires for the electric brakes, if I understood it correctly?!?!

Give them a call, Steve is a good guy to talk to about this!

Btw, I almost ordered the Execuhitch/Invisihitch several times, but when I contacted them, they didn't want to sell me just the pieces I wanted (complete kit w/o the harness and programming. So I kept holding off ordering, just not feeling the love from execuhitch...

Then someone here posted about the Stealth Hitch version!
I emailed Stealth, and got a reply, pretty much saying "no problem, we can do that!"

Steve from Stealth also called me before shipping it out, to explain some features and make sure I knew the differences between the harnesses etc.

His email reply and follow up phone call, together with the nice stainless steel part solution, is enough for me to recommend giving them a call at least.
Would be great to hear from X5 owners that have put the Stealth through some good use though!

Wow! Where do I start... I had that Invisihitch on my 2015 35d, I tow a 20' RV with it. Last year we camped almost every other weekend, so I left the drop in for the season. At the end of the season it was stuck in. I had to take a hammer and hit it a few times to break it lose. After I got it out it had surface rust in it. The Stealth Hitch receiving block is made out of stainless steel and should not rust. When not in use the Stealth Hitch has a moulded rubber plug that seals the receiving block. The Invisihitch has a plastic spring loaded cover that doesn't seal. The drop on the Stealth Hitch is a more compact design that gives you more ground clearance than the Invisihitch. And the Stealth Hitch active harness (factory) comes with the other side of the 4 pin connector for an electric trailer brake mode, there is even a label on the bag that tells you what pins are what signals for hookup! I also took off a factory hitch from my 2017 35d as the latching mechanism on it was cheap pot metal. I've attached some pictures so you can see for yourself!

Thanks for this post. looks like Stealth hitch or execuhitch are good options.
Does anyone have a DIY for removing the rear bumper on an 15' X6?

There's several on YouTube. The invisihitch guys even have one on there. It's pretty straight forward. A buddy is very helpful. And you need replacement plastic rivets. I think 6. 3 per side.
