My 2018 X5 xDrive35i Build Thread

Whats up guys I'm new on here and just placed an order for a new X5.

The car is entering production next week so I wanted to see if anyone can make any change suggestions/comments on the options I ordered below.

Thanks

Here is my build:

DESIGN

M Sport Design$4,350

COLOR
Space Gray Metallic$550

WHEELS
20" M Double-spoke wheels, style 469M with performance run-flat tires$600

UPHOLSTERY Mocha Nappa Leather

TRIM Fineline Pure Textured Wood Trim

PACKAGES + OPTIONS
Lighting Package$1,900
Mocha Interior Design Package$3,100
Multi-contour seats$950
Ceramic Controls$650
Head-up Display$1,100
Heated rear seats$350
Heated Steering Wheel$190
Harman Kardon surround sound system$875
Surround View Cameras$500
DESTINATION + HANDLING$995

TOTAL MSRP as Built$75,610

I really wanted the executive package to get the digital cluster but it is now discontinued on the 35i

I'd add the DHP. That is the only thing I regret not getting.

Agree, DHP and replace heated options with cold-weather package.

I have the Mocha interior w/ Alum Hex trim and I love it. I like how the aluminum contrasts with the otherwise darker leathers.

You might want to consider Luxury Seating -- it's $50 more (because you're already getting the multi-contour seats) and gives you ventilated seats.

Lastly, Wireless Charging/Hotspot gives you an extra microphone and more USB ports; I believe it also allows extra phones to be simultaneously paired, if that's something you value.

Apple Carplay is "nice" if you're iOS, but it's not essential.

Ceramic Controls look cool, but if you're trying to stay within a budget (ha!), I'd swap those in a heartbeat for Adaptive M.

Lastly, if you're in the city, the Lighting Package is kind of a waste. I'm in Chicago and I can never even get the high beam assistant to work because of the high level of ambient light. So unless you live in the country, I think the regular xenons are more than adequate.

Thanks for the responses guys.

Touching on what you guys said, I am not such an aggressive driver and only have an urge to drive sporty once in a while so for that reason I did not add the DHP since it was a $3600 option and I would prefer the Mocha Nappa leather package instead. I did not get the luxury seating package because the perforated seating section of the seat is downgraded to Dakota leather and takes away from the softness and comfort of the seat. I want all Nappa since the main point of the Nappa is the softness that it adds when you sit in the seat vs just being on the headrest and edges of the seat when you add the ventilated seats.

The cold weather package is no longer available so I added the heated steering wheel and heated rear seats since it was the only way (these are a must as I live in NYC and the winter here gets brutal!)

As for the lighting package, I just love the way the full LED headlights look. To me they complete the look of the car. A friend of mine just got the same car without the full LEDs and the car looks incomplete to me (please note I pay close attention to detail).

Lastly, for the ceramic controls I was very close to passing on these however once I saw them in person I knew had to have them. Its more of a tactile thing than it is an aesthetic. The feel of the controls is far superior to that of the plastic aluminum colored ones.

Has someone here driven the car both with the M suspension and without? How much of a big difference does it make?

2016 BMW M3  [0.00]
The suspension\handling are discussed a lot around here. From personal experience, I had a 2013 E70 X5d with the regular suspension. I then upgraded to an 2015 F15 X5d with the DHP package and was a bit surprised at the difference. It was\is a different vehicle, so much better that I wouldnt have one without it. My 2015 lease was up last month so I ordered a 2018 F15 but this time the 35i, not the diesel. M Sport package and DHP and all the other goodies. We purchased this time and plan on keeping it for 60-70k miles at least.

All the other stuff I agree with your reasoning.

DHP - Highly recommended for those who enjoy driving. YMMV.....

Lighting package is a must as well.
I agree with you on the ceramic controls, another must. I had them on my F16 and don’t on my F15, I would upgrade but it’s too much of a hassle and cost.

I can’t believe they eliminated the cold-weather package, what a shame.

The cold weather packaged wasn't eliminated; it was just reorganized.

Instead of getting heated fronts/rears, heated wheel, and I think headlamp washers, the heated fronts/washers come standard, and you select heated rears and heated wheel as individual options.

I’m debating whether or not to add the Adaptive M suspension tomorrow (I probably have another few days until my car goes into production). The question is if the $900 msrp increase is worth it.

Otherwise I’m very happy with this build. Only thing that bummed me was that the digital cluster is no longer available

really reconsider the DHP. That's the only thing I would add to your list.

Did you want your roof rails in aluminum or satin? That's the only thing I wish I knew when I did my order.

I think on this car I’m going to pass on the DHP since I prefer to have some of the other options like nappa leather. To give up $3,600 worth of options just isn’t worth it to me as I’m not really an aggressive driver.

As for the roof rails I got the satin option on my build receipt, I’m happy with this I think they will look good with the space grey

DHP is not about aggressive driver, is about overall ride quality.
You have been advised by everybody to go for DHP, but instead of listening to their arguments, you are just trying to make up reasons to justify against it.

Agree, it’s more about daily driving quality, the better handling during spirited driving is a bonus. I won’t own another without it.

I just would rather get other options worth $3600

Bmw standard ride quality is fine for me, not stating that the DHP isnt better

I guess on my next car I will opt for the DHP since it gets nothing but positive reviews.

My car went into production this morning so no changes but hey I'm sure I will be more than happy with my build.

Will post photos as soon as it is received (guessing another 3 weeks since production began today).

Thanks!

According to a BMW Genius rep, my car will be finishing production tomorrow! Unfortunately they were not able to give me an estimated arrival date to my dealer.

I live in NYC does anyone have a rough idea of how long the car will take to get here from when production ends?

Thanks
