Thanks for that.

There's some confusion re production dates shown on the bmwarchive site i.e. build start or build complete?. I contacted them directly and was told that the dates they quote are the build completion date though I'm still not convinced.

I don't think any UK bound X5's are sent on the W&W ships now, the only RHD cars on W&W seem to be heading to other countries. I think UK bound X5's are shipped by K Lines. No tracking facility is provided on K Lines public website.

Enjoy your new X5!

I know how frustrating it is. As another member said, amazon can track a £2 package better. All worth it though

Was told June production and mid-August delivery. The wait begins.

Crap. Was told by dealer today that production is pushed back to August, meaning delivery not likely until late Sept or early October. This seems crazy to me given my April order date. Guess bright side is that mine will now be 2015 MY.

Hi 'Dazza' >12 weeks from order to delivery is the norm in Europe. But as you say it's probably the MY 15 build, whatever that means.
My order was delayed 4 weeks, frustrating to say the least but well worth it when the car arrives....I love the F15

Well worth the 5 month wait. Really enjoying it!!
Congratulations...will look out for you when I'm on the M40 at night!

Any pictures?

Finally, after what seems like ages (well it has been 3 months since order), my F15 has finally clicked into build this week and expected delivery date to the dealer has come forwards a week to last week of July

@CatFlap, it definitely looks like our cars will be sharing a boat on the way over.

Just awaiting the VIN from the dealer to be able to see what I can find out about it.

I worked out that the first RHD X5 built today has VIN ending 43866 and since they seem to be built in sequence of VIN there's only a hundred or so to go until mine's built! (based on production data over the last month, it appears to take about 7 days to build 200 RHD X5's on this line therefore my car should be built by the end of this week - we'll see if it works out!)
I've now got my VIN from the dealer, it's ending 77356 and building this week, not sure how that stacks up with what you found out about the VINs being built in sequence from 43866 this week?

I've looked up my VIN on the bmwarchiv.org site and it comes back as a 1987 E28 limousine, what am I doing wrong?

Is there a site to lookup the complete vehicle VIN?

The dealer has confirmed the complete VIN to me and what they gave as the last 7 chars is 'correct' as far as I can see.

What should the start of the VIN be for an F15 40d SE?

Nothing wrong - its cos your car is not in production yet! They seem to 'recycle' old VINs I guess.

As an example, if you look up VIN 0J43940 you'll see that it's a car reported as in production today, if you then increment the last digit until you get to the car which reprts as an old 5 series (or similar) the VIN previous is the last one on the production line. When it gets up to yours BINGO!

I notice that WBAKS620600K77316 was built on 9/6/14 - no more in that series of VIN's for 40d.

@NPickles nothing to worry about, different engine - different VIN number series. I asume your 7 digits don't start with 0Jxxxxx like mine do?

Please PM me your 7 digits if you're happy to do so and I'll send you mine!

I thought a VIN was unique to ID a single car..bit like an IMEI or SIM Card on a mobile

Yes the whole VIN is unique. BMW seem to be 'recycling' the last 7 digits though the other digits in that VIN will be different and thus still unique.

e.g. WBAKS420000J43941 new VIN (X5 40d 2014)
WBAJW780020J43941 old VIN (could be some 80's BMW)

i.e. last 7 digits recycled though the whole VIN's are still unique.

@Baunton, It would appear not, at least not the last 7 digits anyway

Thanks @CatFlap, I had just come to that conclusion myself.

77335 shows up as an F15 40d with a production date of today so mine is nearly there, just 21 to go

Hi, fair point! It's very tempting to stray along the tick box.

It's actually not my cup of tea at all - I much prefer the standard non-LCD version. Is the 6wb panel merely an option on the 2015 model or am I going to be stuck with it as a standard feature?

Option only. But you may get some recent improvements announced. Better stiching for the seats, a little bit more speed (due to gearbox adjustment and cc, you can now choose alcantara headliner (again if you like it). I mean there is more, but I did not look into it that much. I would go for the alcantara roof, am not sure if I would skip 6WB, would have to see it in person (if it is improved from the previous version).

At this stage, I would say you are lucky to get the newer improved version.

10 more done (77350) nearly there now. They seem to build about 12 40D's a day looking back at the last few days so hopefully mine gets done today as they have only done 3 today so far.
