Cheap door seals failing

I have had my 2014 x5 for less than 500 miles and already the very thin, very cheap looking door seals are flipping out every time me or my passengers exit the car...they turn themselves inside out with the lightest brush and are immediately creased by the soft close door operation...it appears that his will have to be a factory fix as once they are folded the only get worse and worse.. has anyone else experienced this or talked to their bmw center about the problem?

Garage List
I just picked up my 2014 X5 xDrive 3.5i yesterday. In less than 100 miles, i'm seeing the exact same issue. I parked the X5 in my garage last night. Closed the driver side door, didn't think anything of it, and this morning i was looking at the car and noticed their weird projection just behind the door from Front only on driver's side. I was thinking, what the F? Then i noticed after closer inspection it was the front door gasket / door seal.

I will be reporting this immediately!

I welcome other's input and resolution.

I put some double sided tape between the stripping and has worked fine for the past 3 weeks.

I'm not really into taping stuff on a new vehicle. I hope they resolve this by the summer of 2014.

had the same issue at the test car in Austria. Immediately told to the dealer. I think they didnīt pay any attention on it... Itīs really not nice seeing this lip from the outside.
My 40d will arrive in Jan/14, Iīll put as well a double sided tape on some places! Pretty sure it will happen to my kids otherwise often...

I second this. Can someone please upload a picture for a visual? I am also not into spending 60K on a car and having to stick tape BUT would like to know and see a pic of that workaround.

Here's a pic of the area that people are talking about... I haven't had issues with this yet but it definitely feels a little flimsy.

Same here (in Austria). I was given an explanation in the line of: "Well this car gets opened/closed hundred times a day, so you just put the rubber part inside when it happens ". Demo car (M50d) had soft close option. Perhaps problem occurs only with soft close (I initially took the option, then decided to go without it =tin can sound when doors are closed). They made an awesome job of car closing sounding bad without soft close.

REALLY??

600 miles:
Thanks for all of the feedback guys...i am glad (and sorry) to see that this opportunity is not unique to my vehicle...I have also noticed that it is now happening regularly on the passenger side...the flimsy material is not rigid enough to hold its shape and the slight contour in the door panel causes the seal to flip almost inside out and stay...the soft close doors simply aggravate the problem by mashing the inverted seal in place making it even more likely to stay folded out. I usually dont notice until i hear the wind noise and look in the side mirror to see the seal flapping....Last night i had to stop on the interstate to circle the car and fold it inside the passenger door!

I stopped at my local BMW center in Charleston SC to show them and they were very surprised (and horrified). They assured me they would contact their local rep to find out if the factory is aware and if so what the proposed fix will be. Ill keep you posted but be on the lookout...

This may take awhile as only a couple have been delivered and i hear the allocations have dried up through march?

I just picked mine up at the performance delivery center in SC. You spend about 2 hours with a BMW rep going over everything about your new X5 (freaking outstanding, imo). Thanks to you all, I was able to show the BMW rep what was/can happen. I am not sure it will help, but she said she is going pass the info along.

That just is not acceptable on a brand new vehicle at this price point. I hate to say it, but this company is losing it's focus. The transition to turbos and loss of a previously consistent esthetic to their designs is ruining this brand. The interiors with their tumorous screens in the centre of the dash are an abomination. The could have had the iDrive screen flip out of the top of the dash or motorize in like an Audi A7.

If they truly had attention to detail, they would have caught this before. As much as I want to continue buying BMW's because some of their technologies are so amazing, they are moving too far away from what they once represented.

I don't think it's acceptable in any price point. Even a Yugo shouldn't be built this way when selling it to consumers.

I do agree that iDrive screen could be better integrated with the dash, but I don't know about the motorized flip up. More moving parts mean more things to go wrong.

Most first run, especially German, cars have bugs. The E70 was not perfect when it first came out. I'm sure BMW will address the fix. The smart folks buy a BMW in it's LCI iteration. I, unfortunately, am not one of those. I can live with a door seal fix. Engine malfunctions or mechanical issues scare me more.
