FSC code and map update are 2 separate things, unless you purchase a lifetime FSC code, before every map update the vehicle will prompt you to enter a one time FSC code. Hence having entered a lifetime code once is well worth it, from that point forward all you have to do is install map updates from your USB stick. All future map updates will work for your vehicle.

I’m getting the initial “start update or cancel” prompt, I then click start update and the next screen says “please connect the USB device 1 to start the update”
The only option to click is cancel. I’ve tried reinserting the USB and no change. I am not prompted for an FSC code. I transferred all 7 files to usb 32gb and cleaned extra files with Clean My Drive 2.

What am I doing wrong?

My wife drives our 2016 X6 Xdrive35i F16 and I always assumed her map updates were included but I just checked and her maps look like they have never been updated. (2016-1, NBTM15392A)

Is there a Vehicle Option and Code you paid for? We added just about every option available at the time.

I just updated our 2009 335i E92 to 2020 maps. Now trying to research what the process is for the X6. The 335i was updated via the glove box USB. The X6 doesn't have one that I can see though it has one in the center arm rest.

I'll start searching for the X6 process but if someone has a quick answer I'd appreciate it. I may also wait until late February 2020 when her Warranty expires.

Same process, download maps, get the code from Ebay or generate yourself, connect the drive in the armrest, give it about 30 minutes to update. Done.

New to all of this and was searching the thread and didn't find the answer.

How do you generate an FSC code on your own? Would it be a lifetime code?

Buy a code on ebay??? Really?

I heard that 2020 maps were available. I'm searching for those since mine hasn't been updated since 2016.

Yes you can generate your own lifetime code, just google it. You will need a cable and e-sys as well as code generator software. If you don't want to bother with all that just go to ebay and buy one there they usually go for around $20 for the lifetime one.
