Year code?
If you mean FSC, then is unique for your VIN.

I think the maps are from around November 2018, if that's what you mean…

Thanks for this. I updated the nav on my newly acquired X5 from 2015 to the 2019-2 maps with no problems.

Then you should go to BMW and purchase the maps.

If you have an E-net cable and E-sys installed, you can follow the instructions for generating the FSC code here:

Thank you for advice, but I prefer not to pay for what should come free. I wish Goodle Maps was integrated into HUD through Carplay then I would not even bother updating BMW navigation maps.

No, it wasn't directed at you. I wasted a couple of hours trying different instructions for generating the FSC code and none of them worked until I found the one I linked in my message. I thought it would help others out.

Anyways, the magnet link for downloading the maps did not work for me either. I ended up downloading the maps from the MEGA link in the OP's post. You need a lot of patience though because they limit you to downloading 5 GB every 6 hours. I installed the MEGA extension in my Chrome browser first so that it can continue downloading where I left off. It took a few days to download the entire map file.

Yep - that is what I meant, went from 2019-1 to 2019-2 Evo. Just not sure if there are that many changes or worth doing that every time.

Might not be any changes near you, but somewhere out there some highway exit got changed or an intersection became a dead end because some idiot realized that their land actually included the road in the middle so they built their house in the middle of the road basically and created a four dead ends.

I am hoping it changed that 75 South from Detroit was closed. I thought that 2019-1 would take care of that since the roadwork was finished around Nov, but it still showed closed in that update. Maybe 2019-2 will finally show that it is open and construction finished.

Judging by the file dates, the maps lag at least 4 months, so don't have your hopes up.

It'll take a lot long longer than that. Probably six months plus to validate probably 2019-3 if there is one or 2020-1... The 2019-2 map files are from November 2018 and that's after validations, so the map information is even older than that.

This is the unfortunate part of these navigation maps, even the latest update will months if not a year behind Google Maps, etc.

Thanks - I never realized that lagged that far behind. Too bad they could not be live like Waze or Apple Maps. I always use Waze in my 5 series, but my wife likes BMW Navigation because of the HUD and I do prefer HUD too. Maybe someday Waze or Apple Maps can show up in HUD and then won't need BMW Nav.
