Mak Wheels
Anyone familiar with Mak wheels and their quality? Was looking at a set of wheels on their site. Apparently they are TUV certified:

I have a set of MAK X-Mode 20" on my car, only had them for about 18 months (and first time buying this brand) but they are holding up great. MAK are reasonably well known in continental Europe and have a good rep. From what I have found out they own their own foundry and so everything is made in house from start to finish:
These are the ones I have, gun metal grey with polished face, matches really well with the Dark Graphite Metallic of my car: https://www.makwheels.it/en-sh/x-mod...m40izx.aspx#!/

Not really, but only because our winters here in The Netherlands are very mild, and also because when we bought the car (used) it already had a set of 18's with full winters so I run those for 2-3 months (Dec -Feb) and then full summers for the rest (Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetrical 3 SUV)...

No idea I'm afraid, just what's in that youtube video. You could always drop them an email, I'm sure they'd be happy to explain....

Ok thank you. I have reached out to them, waiting to hear back on that. I planned on running them w/all seasons all year round, and the winters here in the Northeast US can be pretty rough at times (as well as the roads), so I want to of course ensure that these are structurally sound. I certainly love the aesthetics though. Almost 612m style which I love (esp in the machined with gunmetal finish).

Do note however, that the wheel load is 995 kg (around 2200 lbs). I believe the max axle weight for the X5 is 3000lbs, so that would equate to a required load rating of at least 1500lbs per wheel (which clearly these wheels appear to exceed). Will let you know once I hear back from Mak, but good to confirm they have a TUV approval. |
