15 35D 54K Miles - Potential EGR Issues post Recall
I have a 2015 35D M-Sport that recently had the EGR Recall performed. Over the last couple of weeks I have noticed a decent amount of water leaking/dripping from under the engine (not sure if this is related but including just in case). Then just a few days ago the CEL appeared, no messages on the iDrive however. Took it to Autozone and they read P2459 (DPF Regen Frequency). My question to the group here is essentially... any chance this would be an issue that is covered under any extended warranty coverages - I really don't think I can convince the boss (aka wife) to spend several thousand dollars on this thing but I really want to keep it, haha! It's almost a unicorn given it also has DHP!

Have you checked the coolant expansion/reservoir for loss of coolant?
How long has it been since the EGR recall was done? You can use ISTA to scan for info with DPF, like distance/time since last regeneration, amount soot/ash current accumulation, remaining life/distance, so you know the condition of DPF. You can force a regeneration if needed from ISTA. Some components of DPF, like sensor, have 10 years/120,000 miles extended warranty. Last edited by milkyway; 07-31-2023 at 09:23 AM.. Reason: typo |

According to the records I got at the dealer during the EGR recall - the diesel particulate sensor was replaced in December 2021 (at 43K miles). Car now has 53K miles. EGR recall was repaired February 2023.

Aaaaaaand this is the problem with the diesels. Ours also had the EGR recall done and now has an EGR related CEL. Have an appt tomorrow for it. We'll see what they try to stick is with. I'm guessing secondary EGR cooler or changeover valve...
Ours is also a unicorn with DHP (along with a host of other expensive options) but we aren't really excited by it anymore given how problem plagued the emissions gear is. Our E70 diesel was bad as well but the cost of entry was so much less, we figured fine. We'll see what the dealer says... and go from there. The wife is already leaning towards selling it due to the potential expense involved (just replaced DEF transfer pump and front driveshaft). |
