EDC shocks/struts longevity

I’m in the market for an F15 X5. I had an E70 that I lowered with stock Sachs dampers and Eibach springs. It was perfect. I know that, with most BMW’s I’ve owned, I change the dampers out at around the 80K mark. I see a few of these X5’s have the EDC options and DHP options. Do these fail around that mileage anyway? If so, I think I’d rather just have standard suspension as these dampers are significantly more expensive. What are your thoughts on this?

I bought a F15 2014 with 155K kms on the clock and the dealer told me the dampners were worn. changed them up front to avoid later issue. Did tie rod bushings at same time

Did you notice a big improvement in handling or comfort after changing it out? Would you remember how much it cost?

Great question. Since mine were bushings and they were not gone entirely, I didnt notice much difference, other than I was even MORE stuck to the road than usual.

My shocks were not making any noise, and I would not even have noticed if the dealer didnt say something.

As for cost, did the tierod bushings and the shock dampeners it was $1500 inc taxes here in Canada. I had my import specialty shop do the work

I spoke with Strutmonkey and they said that the suspension refresh kit (with a mild lowering spring) was $5k us. That’s crazy! I could opt to just do non adaptive suspension for about $1600. I might even opt to do the fronts only and then the rears only later if I wanted to keep the adaptive system.

PS: I for their $1600 kit for my E70 X5 and it was fantastic.

2VF shocks/struts are on average 7-900ish a corner.

I've been thinking of doing a full refresh on mine but cringe at the price of shocks/struts. F15 with M Adaptive and DHP. I have no symptoms of needing a refresh save from a possible front shudder that feels like wheel balance but isn't, and thats usually a sign of bushings, but I haven't really been able to pinpoint that yet because it's barely noticeable "sometimes". But at 110k and now seeing more rough roads and trails, a complete refresh is probably a good idea.

If it lasts ok for another 10K miles, I’d be ok. I couldn’t believe how nice it was when I changed out my old E70 shocks and springs out for new ones. The butter smoothness made the car a pure joy to drive. I did those changes at 80K. I’m sure if I spend the money to do it to this M Adaptive suspension, it would again be sublime. We sometimes won’t know how the ride quality degrades because it happens at such a slow pace.

I have 127k on my 2015 x5 with the EDC shocks and they still feel great. Comfortable in comfort mode and still very stiff and controlled in sport mode. I am shocked they have lasted this long. I have replaced all of the control arms in the front and some in the rear within the last year. X5 still steers and handles very well.

Did you do it yourself or have a shop replace them?

I'm looking to tackle mine this winter. I have no issues doing it myself, just wondering if there are any "would have been nice to know" surprises.
