shadow line window trim

Would like to replace the satin aluminum window trim with the glossy black shadow line trim. Unfortunately OEM replacement is $2k plus which is ridiculous. Has anyone tried the eBay alternatives? If not will continue hoping a used oem set comes up for sale.

Search. You can easily plastidip them. Or wrap them with vinyl.

To do anything with that trim, one will have to firstly manage to get the trim pieces removed from the car without breaking some tabs. On cars with a little bit of aging, those tabs are like chalk powder. I've been contemplating doing the black cerakote like I did to the front grill, but without anyone showing how to remove the trims without breaking things, I wouldn't even dare this endeavor. Sub'd for anyone who will show and tell.

The trim just pulls out of the rubber, the front door lower trims the door panel and mirror have to be removed first. The roof rails the headliner has to be dropped. What kind of black cerakote you use?? I just coated some exhaust parts with black velvet and it has a wicked nice satin finish, I like it better than the matte clear coat Ive got, I wonder how UV resistant it really is tho..

I used C-7600P (Glacier Black, air dry) from CERAKOTE. It has more of a matted sheen and whole lot less gloss so I added the MC-160P clear coat on it. It's also looking a tint more gray than the BMW OEM shadow-line black; but close enough to hold up a mean look. I've only gotten this done on the front grill and front lower air vent's Longitudinal "T's", and that just about blacked out the whole front.

As far as erosion and UV resistance is concerned, the CERAKOTE really held up well against it all. My car goes through 2 car washes per week, and it's not brushless wash, I'm sure between the harmful chemicals and the bristle towels, it's enough abuse against the CERAKOTE Paint. Well, not even a scratch on the ceramic paint so far, it's been two years. And there are no UV fades either. So you can rest assured.

I think in January when I free up, I'll pull out two weeks to work on painting those window trims to the same Glacier Black coating and call it. CERAKOTE is legit.

Thanks all, I didn’t realize you needed to remove the headliner for the trim and don’t really want to do the vinyl wrap.

Not worth it. That black chrome gets nasty oxidation over time. Best bet is to just vinyl wrap gloss black.
