Sunroof wont open. No response or sound.

Am i missing something? Could there be a lock feature for the sunroof? I get no response when trying to open or use the vent.

Does the visor retract (guessing they are on the same fuse/circuit)?

Also, you should be double pressing / pulling the switch to get the glass to go back. Single only draws the visor.

One last thing that would help, if you have coded your car, if you hold the open button on your key long enough, you windows should roll down and eventually your sunroof will open. I don't think US cars can do that without coding.

At any rate, the above should narrow the cause to the electric motor or faulty switch.

Nothing happens. When pressing forward i do hear the motor for a split second but then thats it. Just scheduled a service. Hopefully its just a bad switch.

Yup hopefully it's a bad switch and that's all. I don't like people going back and fiddling with cars once their built

I've had this happen on ours 2 or 3 times. The first (or second, don't recall) time I had an appointment after it went a couple days like that and it went away, worked fine, the second I left for the dealership….. If I recall, they checked it out and of course didn't find anything. Happened one other time since and again went away on its own. Maybe a loose connection or something. Not a big enough problem for me to raise a bigger issue just yet.

Video it.

Mine is in the shop for parking sensor failure. One month appointment wait. Naturally, after 25 days of consistent and continuous fail, it began to work and flawlessly so the last two days.

The numerous videos on various days made it abundently clear my poor wife was not imagining the problem.

Try this,

I had a similar issue where the sunroof would only open about an inch or so and retract back automatically.

Both times they fixed themselves for what ever reason.

I think cars are alive. They have a personality and play with us. As mentioned in another post for 25 days my parking sensors failed continuously, until two days prior to the appointment, when they began to work flawlessly.

Glad yours is working. I think.

Had same symptom, slide button not operating shade or roof.

My solution: Hold panoramic slide button forward for more than two seconds. I heard it move forward slightly. Slide button started operating normally.

Same here, and it actually happened again earlier this week. Simple cycle of the ignition solved it.

Had the same exact issue happen a few
Minutes ago on a 2017 F15 X5 xdrive35d diesel

Tried what you stated and it worked. This is my 7th X5 I had four E70's and on my 3rd F15. This is the first time this ever happened to me. I am glad I found this thread and your post.

Thank you 👍

Garage List
2024 BMW X7 M60  [10.00]
Happened to me too. Had to take it in for service and they "Re-initialized" it.

No clue what that means. Lol

Happened to me earlier this year. Reinitialization didn't work, but pulling and reinserting the fuse did. Who knows??

Mine got stuck open about 3". I tried everything. Ended up taking it to dealer and they knew right away they had to hook up a computer to the vehicle and reset something. I hope this does not happen again. What if it had been storming?

Thank you for this video. My 2017 F15 would close but not open. I reset the system by following this video and the problem seems to be fixed. Thanks again for posting.

2015 X5 35d. Sunroof/sunshade wouldn't open. Tried the "reset initialization" technique a few times. No luck. Then tried jzmundy's pulling the fuse trick and that did it. 5 A Fuse #20 in the passenger compartment fuse center.

Thank you all for posting.
