M50d PERFORMANCE
Took a trip into Germany at the weekend and after a coffee stop found myself following a very tidy looking Jaguar XK8 back onto the autobahn. I get in front of the Jag and once the road clears with the Jag on my tail I boot it and move away, but then traffic continues to bring us all together. Eventually a nice clear spot arrives and in Sport my foot is flat on the floor and I move away from the Jag, but at around 135mph I have to pull over as the Jag had the legs on the M50d and moved away easily. I must admit I was a little surprised as the Jag is now quite old, but obviously at the top end the V8 must be much stronger. Don't get me wrong, when it is safe to do it, the M50d is very fast and it can easily get to 150mph and seem very stable. Perhaps BMW can up the HP, on the presumably LCI that might occur sometime, and I won't then have to be 2nd placed to an old Jag!
PS: Just realise this is an X6 M50d not the old 5 Series or X5 - whoops if any confusion caused, thought you might clock my "drives" Last edited by Wing Co; 03-27-2017 at 02:22 PM.. |

My 35i does 135 like its nothing.....
I think Diesels lack top end speeds and they shine more in the lower speeds.

No LCI coming on the current F15/F16 as the all new replacement G-series is due out at the end of next year.

Ta, I might be changing around the 3 year old point next Jan so I would prefer the new model. What's this G-series - got a link for what it's all about?

IMHO, unless you are in the purely performance SUV's such as the SVR or the X5M, we would all get toasted by a sport coupe no matter how old it is.
I just picked up a 2014 SL550 and I am completely and utterly blown away by how fast it is. My thought process is that just because it is a bit older, that doesn't really change the original performance. Unless of course it was not properly maintained. I LOVE my X5 50i M Sport. And it really does have some serious cajones... However, a lighter V8 with much better aerodynamics will crush it every time. |

That's an X7. And every dealer I've talked to says next x5 not due for a while. 7 year is normal run. All these fake news websites saying a new gen is coming early have no clue and are simply clickbate.

My friend that works for BMW HQ in Munich confirmed with me G05 X5 start of production for 8/2018 so it is happening. I don't doubt his information since other sites have reiterated that date as well.
