Car Play Issues
I've got a '17 X5 and I have noticed that my Car Play connection doesn't always work.
Sometimes I get in the car and it auto connects and other times I get in and then nothing. A few times I have even had to completely delete the phone and re-pair from the start. I can't tell what is causing the issue (the car or the phone), but I only have 1 phone connected to the car. Also, I have found that I can be listening to 1 SXM station and when the CarPlay connection finally happens it switches the channel to my first SXM preset. Anyone else having odd behavior from CarPlay?

I used Carplay for all of 5 mins then turned it off. Just felt like the iDrive 5.0 was really good now and didnt need CarPlay, but nice to have it there just in case.

It is good once u get used to Siri. I like it now a lot, when it does not connect automatically it is frustrating.

Same thing here. Every now and then, I need to re-connect my phone, even though it's set up to automatically connect.
I really like the integration with Siri, Messages and Apple Music, but the overall integration with iDrive could be better. Sometimes I feel I'm managing a two-headed monster. Two voice recognition systems, two mapping options, etc etc. The other problem is that CarPlay will not switch to my wife's phone when she is using the car with her key. Wouldn't that be great?...

+1 on the bugginess. not just with carplay just with the whole bluetooth integration. I picked up my new x5 this past saturday (which includes carplay) and the BMW genius set up my phone, etc etc
get home that afternoon and start up the car to start programming my radio stations and 1-8 buttons and my phone would not connect..i had to totally wipe the phone out and repair everything (which took forever and a day because for some reason my iphone and car would not talk to each other) my first gripe... apple maps suck via car play. you can't even use the touchpad knob to zoom in and out. Whereas the BMW map you can zoom in and out using the dial. second...i cannot store quick contacts in my 1-8 buttons from carplay. i had to turn off carplay, go back to the bmw interface (two headed monster) then store my contacts. I get it.. most people will say "use siri and you dont need to program buttons" lets just say me and voice activation dont work well together. i love my new car... love everything about it... few things i will add in on the next one... but carplay..i think i can do without... if it were standard then fine... but a 300 dollar option.. i can do without it. |

I too have been having the intemittant bluetooth issue. I called BMW NA and the person I talked to said they are aware of the issue and it will probably be addressed by a software update.

Carplay works on and off and even when it does work then audio breaks every half minute. I know i would have to delete device reintegrate everything but dont have the time to do it... As i said earlier, its great when it works

Probably related - my phone refuses to connect for music (Apple Music and occasionally Spotify). If I reboot my phone and reboot iDrive it comes back.
Hopefully an update is released soon to fix this.

Having the same problem. The first week it all worked flawlessly and now Spotify often fails to ever connect.
