trading my F15 50i for a 40d

After many problems with my '15 50i, BMW finally agreed to trade it for a new vehicle. The car had only 33,000 km and six serious stops at the service, including two times changing the steering column and one almighty V8 engine change. For 18 months of owning it, I spent 3 months not driving it, because it was being repaired. So I've had enough and started complaining. Several months after, my new F15 is on already on order. I've been told if I wanted a joyful ride without troubles - I should get a diesel. I'm not a diesel guy. Never been. But I love my F15, it's a beautiful beast! And I already have a petrol car for faster drive.. so here's my first new diesel order. What do you think?

Nice that you listed option product #, as that is specific as description may change from country two country.

Nailed it:
5AR Traffic jam assistant
5AT Driving Assistant Plus
2VF Adaptive M suspension
2VP Adaptive suspension package 'Dynamic'
6F2 Bang & Olufsen High End Surround Sound System
5A3 BMW Night Vision with dynamic light spot

You asked for thoughts:
Option wise sweet.

Nice that dealer takes care of you and is willing to work with you.
You mentioned that you are not "yet" a diesel guy (past 2 were 50i).
Unsure why you and dealer didn't agree on another 50i or M or M50 diesel. But I hear you twice bitten and 3rd time shy.

You should be able to get exactly what you want without comprise.

FWIW I had a 2014 x5 50i, with 12000 km no issues, traded in for x6 35i,
seems like I was fortunate.

Q: Is your friend with your 1st 50i still your friend?

Хубава конфигурация, ама БМВ!
Дизелите също имат проблеми имай на предвид!
При БМВ всичко е на късмет, ако имаш ще попаднеш на кола ако ли не ще дреми колата по сервизите!

Well, I was told 50d would be as bad in terms of faulty engines and stuff as the 50i. Mainly because here in Bulgaria our fuels are the lowest quality possible. So I decided to play it safe and buy a 40d. I would probably need to chip it in order to not feel slow. But coming from a 991 TTS.2, the 50i felt slow every time. It's a truck after all.

They would have agreed to swap it for anything. What they did was offer a premium for my car (which at just 22 months costs about 50% of MSRP) and also gave me some 40% discount of anything new I'd buy. I configured a few vehicles, including a 50d and a X5M, but decided to go with a 40d as a safer option engine-wise. And I put almost everything from the configurator to compensate for the slower truck

Well.. Technically the 550i was still under extended warranty when I sold it. And he's kinda happy now, cause he owns 5 year old car with a brand new engine. The 50i back at 2010 was considered very buggy. I think it's the second iteration of that engine which is supposedly fixed.

Unfortunately I wouldn't know, cause my dealer is taking my car next month, when the diesel truck arrives.

Hope you do not have any troubles mate .. it's really the worst

Lovely build for the 40d Congratz on the Porsche too I d be surprised if you find a lot of cars that do not feel slow compared to it.

Might have been easier to list whatever option (if any!) that you didn't spec

Interesting that the fuel quality might have contributed to the 50i problems. Diesel is a more widely used fuel in the EU, so maybe true.

I've also just ordered a 40d X5, and it will be my first diesel in 36 years of driving. I've got to wait until production week 6 in 2017 for mine though as dealer has no allocation left for 2016. I just missed out on the last one they had which was also a week 47 the same as yours.

Lol, that would be simpler... 3rd row seat, additional heater, headliner in alcantara... I think that's it

Wish you good luck with your new truck, mate!

Switching to english here, so that other fellow forum members can actually understand what's being written I'm guessing Bulgarian looks like Chinese to most people here

Both of my 50i engines (from my previous F10 and from my current F15) were changed from BMW without the need for me to do or pay anything. And while my F15 is relatively new - only 18 months old when this happened, my F10 was 5 and a half years old. And BMW paid for the new engine in full.

So I'm quite confident they pay for everything, when the car is under warranty.

5 Years warranty / 200.000km gives me also the confidence to choose the F15. Instead of Q7, ML, RR.
