Burger Motorsports N63tu Tune

Has anyone done any before and after dyno/performance testing specifically on the F15 50i with the BMS N63tu piggyback tune? With an F15 that has not had any header/exhaust etc. mods, just a standard F15 50i?

I have seen test results on 5 series and other N63tu cars that have had other mods but nothing on a bog standard F15 50i.

Not a lot of places have AWD Dyno, and most of them are happy with their butt dyno result.

The reason I ask is that I just exchanged my 2014 model for the 2017. It became immediately apparent to me that I was feeling more torque/power lower down in the rev range than the 2014. Once I put the BMS stage 1 on the 2017, I feel as though that low end improvement is gone. I know that the BMS N63tu stage 1 is a race tune so for racing you want the power higher up the rev range, however, on the street that is a different story.

I am just wondering if this is all in my head and that is why I was hoping someone had actually done a before and after test with actual figures.

I wonder if they re-mapped the fueling on the 2017, because I think the change between the 2014 and 2017 in stock is very apparent.

Then I read that BMW updated the N63tu engine to the N63tu2 and when you google that it mentions that they made the power/torque more available through more of the rev range.

So now I am wondering if the 2017 X50i actually comes with the N63tu2?

Any ideas?

Nope, only the new 5 and 7 come with the new motor.

Unless you have already, make sure that your 2017 is adjusting to the tune.. give it a several hundred miles or one tank of gas.

In 2015, new changes in 8 speed ZF ratio with 1st gear with lower ratio and 8th gear for higher ratio so you have faster acceleration due to lower 1st gear ratio and actually better gas mileage while cruising at 8th gear.

Maybe that is why you feel that the 2017 X5 may feel faster than 2014.

For me the JB+ on the N63tu is by far the least transformative Burger product I've ever tested. So far it's been like a placebo. I guess, I'd have to remove it probably feel a difference. And since I'm so gently on the throttle most of the time, the rare times I floor it, I'm always left wanting more thrust, especially on a roll. I guess having owned a tune F10 M5 doesn't help lol

I'm waiting on their stage1/2 with CAN adjustment capability. That should be more noticeable power with more fueling options etc...

Thanks for the info. I was sure I could feel the difference between the two. That probably explains it!

I took that car today and absolutely thrashed it on a private road, of course. Got to 140mph and a number of times flooring it from 70 to 130mph. Kind of chickened out as I don't think my snow tires are really rated to go that high...

The car is very strong in that realm but in reality no one is going to drive like that on the street.

As Timberwolf mentioned, I would need to now take the tune off and run it for a hundred or so miles so the car remaps to the standard tune and compare what I feel.

I removed the BMS N63tu stage 1 tune and have run the car without it. I am sad to say that for the 2017 year BMW X5 50i, the car is more responsive and "feels" faster WITHOUT the tune.

I did use the BMS N63tu stage 1 on my 2014 X5 50i and could "feel" an improvement in responsiveness and apparent acceleration.

I think that some settings, chips or otherwise must have been changed or updated by BMW and have rendered the performance of the BMS N63tu stage 1 ineffective/inferior for the 2017 model F15 50i compared to leaving the car as it came from the factory.

Adjusting the switch on the tune itself does not yield any better results? Is everyone dissatisfied with the JB4 product for the 50i or just for the 2017+ models?

Well I decided to try and use the Sports Display to see if what I am feeling could be indicated visually.

Here is the result. So for the 2017 X5 50i, the BMS N63Tu tune actually reduces power.

I was under the impression that the sport display is just RPM and gear plotted into an equation not necessarily a true value.

I contacted Burger and they don't support the F15 motor at all. Try this instead:

Maybe have 5 or 10 more people to ask them.
Their answers are never the same.
But yea, try RaceChip. My customers all loves it.

I remember how a selection of people said their RaceChip tune doesn't seem to do anything so perhaps the OP is in this subset with this tune?

I did call them and speak to them to purchase the tune for my 2014 model, they said it would work and sold it to me.

It could be that they changed the engine coding descriptions and categories within the 2017 model that do not match up with the tune chip. The rest of the coding, for example, if you make your keyfob close the trunk door etc., is completely different to the prior years coding descriptions and categories.

So it could well be that it does not match up anymore and do what it is supposed to do.

All I noticed, when I got a call from my customer that the BMS Stage 1 doesn't work, the RaceChip Ultimate does work. And who says the RaceChip Ultimate doesn't work, the BMS Stage 1 do work on them.
And the specs on the N63tu engine hasn't been changed yet.
I know that BMW going to change the N63tu on the new G30 550.
