How to park and how not to park

Out with the family, looking for a parking spot in a parking garage. Found an end parking spot and did what I always do when given the chance, give myself a little extra space. So as I was walking I noticed this white X5 taking up 2 spots...smh! This is one of the reasons why people don't like people that drive BMWs!

Would love to swap kidney grills with him though!

Garage List
Good parking spot.
I usually park away from others to avoid accidents, door dings, shopping carts etc. I fold my mirrors in also. I use a couple different techniques including making sure only one car can park next to me, leaving as much space as possible on the side with the open parking spot, parking next to the island instead of wide open spots.

The White X5 should be more creative and take the time to find a nice spot without taking up two parking spots.

Funny how everytime I make an effort to give myself plenty of space (corner spots with my side mirrors folded) when parking, the more I see oversized SUVs, contractors trucks, and your typical 1980s Cadillac sedans are parked next to me. More times than not, they are parked on the line or a lil pass the line on my side and in such an angle that no brain cells were ever used in the thought process. These are the same folks who would open their doors without first checking to see if they'll hit the car next to them.

I own several high end vehicles (87 MR2, 02 Camry, and 07 Corolla Lol) and never parked or will ever park like that white X5. You're just inviting trouble!

In all fairness that is not done only by BMW owners.

But yes, when a BMW is parked like that, it does make us look bad.

I agree with the previous comment that parking like that white X5 is just inviting trouble. People see a car parked like that and they're more prone to do something to it. It sucks that people don't respect other peoples property but it is what it is.

Like others, I always try to hunt for end spaces. Not long ago I was in my M4 and I had to grab something quick at Home Depot. I parked away from any other cars and I was inside the store for less than 10 minutes. I came out and a lifted F250 was parked about 3 inches next to my car. It was so close that I had to get in through my passengers door. People are dicks!

I agree with everyone's point of view. Even if my best friend would have parked like that I would be calling him a fool.
I mean, there are people who will ding your car accidentally. Parking like a white car is simply asking for unwanted attention.

When most people see a Honda parked like that, they say, "a**hole." When they see a BMW parked like that, they say, "a**hole BMW driver." BMW drivers don't do stupid or inconsiderate things any more often than drivers of other cars, but when people see it, they remember that it was a BMW because it was a BMW.

It's the same in media reporting. If a bank gets robbed and the getaway car is a BMW, the headline reads, "Bank Robbers Escape in BMW." If the getaway car is a Chevy Malibu, the story will identify the car, but probably buried eight or ten paragraphs into the article.

It's the price we pay for driving a car that people remember and many lust after.

^^ and when you customize and mod your X5 one of a kind, you get traced pretty quickly from Philly Chinatown to Bimmerpost forums very quickly.

I would've been the first post/response with an Alan crack, but decided to get the popcorn out and just watch.
This thread will bring out the "old timers"...

Quite a bit of entertainment there. I second the frustration when parking WAY WAY out there and some random car shows up; I think maybe people feel their cars will get lonely

We frequent a Nordstroms nearby with a multilevel parking garage, the spaces are big enough so that's not a problem. What amazes me is when people will WAIT 5-10 minutes for Francine to put her bags in the trunk, redo lipstick, turn car on, back out (sometimes with multiple tries). I prefer to head to the upper reaches of the garage where i KNOW there are spots and i KNOW there are spots i can acquire that provide some level of safety for the car. I have no problem walking a few extra steps.....I need the exercise anyway.

I agree with all the above - Park Responsibly and don't be a dick

I do the same. Whenever i go to the local BJ's store here i head straight to the roof deck even when its rain or shine. Wife hates it but she knows me and my car so she expects it. I laugh at those people that wait around at the mall just to park 20 yards closer to the entrance where there is a sea of empty spaces further out.

One caveat is though sometimes when i park so far out and away it feels like I could be a potential target for people looking for trouble. Just a few years ago there was a incident where a couple went to a local high end shopping mall that was located near some not so high end neighborhoods that I go to frequently was shot in the head for his Range Rover. Freaked my wife out when i told her because we use to go there a lot and i'm the guy parked a mile away next to a wall.

Now with kids I have to factor in not only the safety of my car but also my family as well so while i do park away from others I try to stay visible to other people or at least near some surveillance cameras.

I remember that story and I go into high alert during the holiday season. No car is worth that much....

I always say if someone wants to car jack me go ahead and take it. I would give them my keys and hell even show them how to put it in Sport + mode. Just do me a favor and never let anyone find the car afterwards. No car is worth dying for.
