Yes he was very helpful. When I got stuck he helped me via pms and I was able to complete the mod. The compartment is actually useful now!

I don't know if the iPad Touch works but if you find that it does I'll swap you the 3gs adapter for the 4 so I can use it in my 330i. I have an iPhone 3GS I pulled out of the drawer in there now and it only charges and does the phone....no media help at all. I ordered the cover for removal from the local dealer...on back order from Germany.

In the U.S. I think you will need to get it coded to play video of any kind unless you are parked. BTW, my SA (an excellent SA I've known for many years) says to proceed with caution on the coding because of possible warranty issues if you have a problem and they find that the system has been coded by someone other than a BMW Service Center.

I have a 2015 X5 M-Sport....wondering if there is an option for the replacement plastic with slits for the fan? Would like to be able to keep the fan?

Has anybody found a replacement plastic-plate, which does have the slits for the fan? (I have a 2015 X6 which has the center console fan). I would like to order a replacement plate with the slits. If I am not able to find it, I may drill holes in the plastic, over where the fan is.

Same here! Thought I found the piece but when it arrived, it was the wrong piece.

Had the hole in the glove compartment for over a year and a half now.

I have a 2014 x5 and I'm trying to remove the phone dock as well. My BMW dealer stated that part #51169184500 is compatible with X3/X4, but not X5. Has anyone had any luck finding the correct part for X5s?

I ended up just calling my dealership parts department and got the right one. RG sport has some as well as he mentioned. Also I have seen it on ECS tuning and even Ebay as well.

part number for X5 is 51169252106

Does this part have the "slits" for the fan? I have an X6 with the Cold Weather Package, and the fan is definitely functional (even with no phone in the cradle). It blows hot air in the center console box when the heater is on, and blows cold air in the box when the AC is on.

In that case you are out of luck, because BMW doesn't make one with the hole for the fan.

New finding when I did late 2015 and 2016 X5's.
It doesn't have the fan any longer. So, it seems like the fan that is originally included is not even useful.

Im so happy I did this mod. Is there a market out there for the phone dock that was removed? Just curious because I would sell mine very cheap as it is just sitting in the garage.

Not really.
Most of the ppl I know don't use it. And with the size of the phones these days, almost none will fit on it.
