MPG ratings are pretty similar - 15/21 for the 50i, 18/24 for the 35i. 3 MPG difference is pretty negligible IMO.

newbie x5 3.5 f15 response

3 days old- 2014 x5, high mileage. But clean and sweet. I had a 2000 forester and then a 2010 forester turbo, with serious tuning,

I had emissions issues with the subaru. I just got this 2014 x5. Holy mother of Chuthulu... What a car. I know this will need serious maintenance soon. But still. Go with a dealer if buying used. BMW is not afraid to step out and try something new- but they test it first.

Seriously- test drive a BMW. You will NOT be disillusioned. If you do not like it- fine, go away. The rest of us will be very happy together.

It is not so much a perfect car as it is a good solid car with so much on top of it. Angelo at Patrick BMW in Schaumburg, IL was solid, cordial, but not obsequious, straightforward. I bought a bargain, used model, but it was clean, prepped, made for sale, and Angelo did not care that this was a used item, he was passionate about the brand, professional, positive on the sell, which he should be, but not pushy. He seems to personify the BMW ethos- good solid car, unashamed of its achievements.

If you are wondering whether to buy- go test drive one of these at a BMW dealer. Then you decide.

I consistently average 23 MPG and I don't see a 50i touching that. Bottom line I know the 50i is faster and more fun to drive but my 35i suits my needs nicely.

Thanks everyone for the info and opinions.

Still haven't had a chance to drive the 50i, hopefully this weekend.

Will update as we go along.

I can get about 400 miles on the highway on one tank averaging 100-120 mph.

At 100 mph that's 4 hrs of non-stop driving. Most people I know must stop to rest at least every 2 hours. I know few people other than myself that can go 4-5 hours without stopping and who's not a professional driver (truck driver, for hire, etc.).

That said, I usually cruise at 80-85 mph.

I've driven my home (NYC) to Indianapolis, IN distance around 750 miles in a little under 8 hours.

I've passed many many cars, many I've had to pass on the right because they wouldn't yield from the left lane. I don't honk, flash high beams, tailgate or do anything that endangers people lives, but I will floor it every chance I get to pass.

I'm in the same boat as the OP. I'm looking to trade my Grand Cherokee SRT in for a 15/16 50i. I have a FBO F30 335 so I'm familiar with Bimmers.

Since the 50i already comes with HK, the only other things to look for are Driver Assistance features/packages - Heads-up display, Active Cruise Control, Lane Assist, Blind Spot, etc? Are there any suspension differences I need to watch out for?

I'm looking for an Msport with 3rd row seat option. When I had an E70, the 3rd row seat came with air suspension. Is that the same thing here?

Test drive the turbo diesel and compare it to the 35 and 50. You may find the perfect marriage of low end torque for quick starts, power to change lanes at highway speeds and excellent fuel economy. The new diesels are the way to go. Every time I fill it up I get 632 miles per tank. Here in CA, diesel is about 10 cents a gallon more than premium.

Take the test drive of all 3 back to back and compare them.

We call the Infiniti "the turtle." CVT 265hp and front wheel bias. she is safe and big, that's about all the pros. we went to that from a FX35 and it was a huge difference not for the better. Qx60 is comfortable and reliable. not a bad vehicle, just not for us

Why are you considering swapping the SRT? Is it for the 3rd row? I have an M3 manual for nice weather and seeking to upgrade my winter vehicle. I don’t drive very much but try to enjoy it when I do.
I am considering a used SRT or X50i (maybe Cayenne GTS). I need the cargo space but also looking for no more than 199 inch length so I can fit in the garage. The repairs and maintenance costs scare me for these vehicles yet I don’t want to buy a new CX-9 or Pilot. I could knowing I have the M3 but...

The SRT was fun for a while but the fit and finish of the Jeep is TOTAL crap. Plus if you want to mod the SRT, you have to supercharge it and if you want to supercharge it, you have to forge the motor so basically $15-$20k extra.

There are 2 optional suspensions that are worth considering. M-Adaptive which is adaptive shocks/struts and DHP (Dynamic Handling Package) which includes air bags instead of springs and disconnectable roll bars, among other things. I have neither and it is probably my single regret on this vehicle. Coming from a E70, you will notice the ride is much softer and less sporty without one of those suspension options.

Same with the F15.

Same with the F15.
I traded my SRT in this past Friday and got a 2016 50i with standard suspension. Yup, the steering and suspension are big time downgrades from the SRT but everything else is better. My F30 has M-adaptive and I think DHP. I love how you feel connected to the wheels steering the F30. The F15 feels very floaty.

Congratulations and enjoy the X5. Sorry it took so long to respond to your suspension question.

Took delivery today and very happy. Wife's smile was ear to ear making it all worth it. Now on to mods. Tint appt made for Saturday. Considering doing the tail lights too but 50/50 on it. i have seen it in person awhile ago but struggling to find some pics online with space grey.

Tune and intake are next. Thinking Stage 1 Burger Tune and intake. From what I have read it's a good setup. This is my wife's daily so I dont want to go to crazy with it. would love to hear some thoughts about this or change my mind about a different tune.

as always thanks and appreciate the help!

It's all good. I searched my ass off for the perfect x5 and finding a 50i Msport with adaptive suspension was almost impossible in the price, miles, etc etc that I had to have.

I was going to go Burger also b/c I have that on my F30 and it works great. Never had an issue but after reading way too much over the past couple of weeks, I'm going to go BM3 on the X5.
