2015 X5 35d battery question

Hello folks,
My 35d was purchased April 2016 as a new hold-over from late 2015. I drive 175 miles each day to/from work at 75mph. The X5 gets 32 mpg average, using ExxonMobil diesel. I just hit 40,000 miles on the odometer, and until now, the X5 had never been into the shop for repair, only oil changes and routine maintenance. The check-engine light came on and stayed on, so off to the dealer I went. They found #6 Fuel Injector failed, ordered a new injector and replaced it the following day. The repair sheet also listed a new battery. When I looked under the hood and did not find a battery, I assumed it was in the rear of the vehicle. I looked, and it must be well hidden. My X5 has 3rd row seating and run flat tires, so before I start trying to remove a bunch of the wrong fasteners and tear something up, can someone tell me exactly where in the rear the battery is located?
Thanks!
Amanda

Here is a pic of the 50i battery compartment.. I'm certain the 35d is the same.. not sure if it is different with 3rd row or not though.

Kzang-
Thanks for the picture. I'll look when I get home today. I think mine has a plastic cover in that area, and I may just need to take it off.

Yes, that is correct. I believe they are held by screws.

Are all the repair and battery replacement covered without charging you a dime under 50,000 miles/4 years warranty and maintenance? Does the repair sheet say why the dealer changed the battery? There is SIB to replace the battery at least every other oil change, but it's is hit or miss, some dealers do, some don't. My 2015 35d is about 30K miles now and had 3 oil changes, but no battery replacement.

Yes, the battery replacement is covered by the 4-year maintenance plan that comes with the vehicle.

Usually the repair sheet should give reason for battery replacement, e.g., CBS/key reader prompt, broken/bad, or SIB, etc. Wondering OP can share with us his/hers exactly.

35d Battery Location

Milkyway-
The service sheet say 6121528 BATTERY/1353858 REPLACE ONE INJECTOR.
My X5 had 40,000 miles at that time. This has been the only service call on my vehicle since new. It was free of charge

Glad all are covered under warranty. 6121528 seems to be BMW/dealer work number charging your battery battery . I often saw it on my previous work sheets, I guess they don't want the car out of power while they work on your vehicle, particularly in the middle of software/firmware upgrade.

You dont' want to change that battery after warranty is up...ask me how I know.

It's a month of agonizing over getting reamed by the dealer to the tune of $500 or finding the correct AGM type and capacity at Sears and getting it coded properly by an indie to doing a powerclean lift of a 40 lb weight out of your trunk.

35d Battery Location

Thanks to Kzang for showing me where the battery should be. Looks like he has a gas model with two batteries. The 35d has one battery located on the driver's side, underneath the plastic cover that holds what I suppose passes for the lug wrench. It is held in place with Five (5) 8mm hex-head bolts. A socket and long extension work best to remove these bolts. 3 are easy to get to, but the two down in the bottom of the deep well on the passenger side, are best removed using a socket and extension. In a pinch, a small crescent wrench or a nut driver would do the job. My battery would be shown below, but this site would not accept my jpegs. I have no idea how to determine if it is a new battery, or the original, since I never saw it before today. I assume the codes on top would tell me, if I had the desire to find out. As large as the battery is, I can see someone easily straining their back getting it out of the hole it rests in. From the appearance, it does not seem to be a standard truck battery. It says it is made in USA but does not have a mfg name on it that I could find. I did not remove the red plastic attachment and connection on top to find out. I have the extended warranties on this X5, so I assume I am good till I hit 100k miles in 2018

50i of 8-cylinder like Kzang's requires more batteries and power. The BMW SIB even says to replace it/them EVERY oil change; while 35i/d of 6-cylinder to replace EVERY OTHER oil change. But, as I said before, some BMW dealers may not follow the SIB/do the change for various reasons/excuses as long as you don't have battery issue and can start the car.

His is a 6-cylinder. But agree on dealers skipping if you don't point it out to them.

Even though I'm in warranty now, I've gotten into the habit of hooking the car up to a battery tender to charge that baby up maybe once every two weeks if the weather is good especially I'm going a lot of stop-and-go driving or I've parked my car too long since my dashcam hardwire is set to 72 hours timer...

Anyways I believe the battery will be fine if you don't program it... just if you disconnect the battery without the car being connected to a secondary power source the car may not start or something as a security feature.
