I agree, to get a real benefit from the iPhone cradle you also need to add:

- the BMW Phone Amplifier, between the phone and external antenna, that increases reception a lot and

- the BMW Reminder, that essentially chimes if you shutdown the engine and open the door without removing the phone from the cradle.

I went through all the considerable expense, including a one day SA stop and manage now to dependably speak in my mountainous area full of tunnels - so, it works fine, but I recommend it only if your cellphone coverage has many holes and you really need your car phone all the time.

The two small vent looking things on the left and right of the ceiling and I believe there is also one in the middle as well.
