Passenger side windscreen wiper

Hey guys, I've searched this topic but never really found a solution. The passenger side wiper is absolutely terrible on my x5 especially in snow and the few days after it snows. When the wet salty residue splashes up from the road my wiper just smudges about 12" of its outer clearance.

Has anybody had any luck addressing this issue?

Yeah probably combo of long arm and short blades. Just trying to cleaning something with your arms stretched. Not easy to do.

Anyways I replaced mine with PIAA silicone wipers. Seems to do better.

These OE/OEM wipers are pure rubbish to begin with. I applied Aquapel on all the glazing then switched to Bosch Icon and increased the size on the passenger side to 24" along with giving a slight bend on the wiper arm and now I do not have any issues. Hopefully this resolves your issue.

The problem is the smearing only happens on the passenger side. So this eliminates the quality issues of the wipers, since both driver and passenger side is identical brand or OE. I think it might be a design flaw on the shape of the windshield. Mine smear on the passenger side as well not as much as others but it smears.

I have to take it in for an oil service soon and the dealer can replace the blades. Kzang is right, the curvature of the windshield is the problem and I think there isn't enough pressure on the end of the wiper arm to make full contact against the glass.

I had them adjust the spray nozzle on the passenger side so it sprays higher and it makes about a 50% improvement. Still not solved, and disappointing on an 85k car.

can you bend the wiper blade by hand to create a bit more down pressure?

Nice to know I'm not the only one bothered by this. I just figured the crappy OEM blades were due for a replacement.

Also, my blades squeak against the windshield slightly in light/moderate rain. It annoys the hell out of me.

My solution and so far it works well. I've applied sonax sealant over the front windshield and anytime it rains the water beads off very quickly. So I rarely use the wipers.

I too adjusted the spray on the nozzles, they weren't spraying high enough up the windshield. I've also treated the glass with Rain-X, I've got Aquapel on my Audi. Both great products. The washer fluid with Rain-X in it works great too for re-application while driving.

How did you adjust the spray nozzles? Back in September when I detailed the car, I claybar'd the windshield and applied rain-x to it. It helped but the smudging is constantly happening.
