Estoril blue for the F15

I thought Individual colors meant you can go for any, but we informed that the Estoril blue is not an option even via the individual selection for the F15 non x5m.

Did any one ever venture into getting this color for an F15 M sport?
I find the color selection on the doll side for a car at this price.

Its not possible to order BMW Individual colours on the X5, the factory isn't set up for it, other than the 4 colours listed in the brochure.

And the lack of decent colour options is my big bug bear with the F15 as well......well along with the fact that they've now dropped the Pure Experience exterior trim option to the SE, which now means I'm cancelling my order.

BMW individual only offers 4 colours for the F15. There's no way to special order other colour as far as i know.

It is indeed possible to order Individual color on the X5 (other than the 4 colors listed in the brochure). I ordered my X5 in Melbourne Red in Nov 2016 as a special order. It was $5200 extra. The dealer has to submit the order to BMW Individual for approval. BMW Individual contacts the factory, gets a yes/no answer and a build slot, and then lets the dealer know.

Right now I have a week 18 production week but I'm not totally sure if that will hold or not since it's a BMW individual build. I'm in no big hurry so whenever it's built is fine with me.

$5200 to paint the car in a color they offer for the same chassis? That's highway robbery.

Lol yeah. But as far as I'm concerned, worth it cause I'll take my X5 in any color as long as it's bright red I keep my cars for at least 6 to 7 years, and if I'm keeping a car that long, I want it to be something that I enjoy looking at every day.

I remember back when I was a teenager, I bought an '84 Firebird that was black, simply because it was a decent car with low miles and I could afford it. Ugh, what a terrible color if you are a clean car fanatic like I am. Then I bought an '85 Trans Am...that was black. And then a '91 Ford Explorer...yes, it was black too. So now that I'm older and maybe, perhaps a bit wiser, I only buy a car with the exact color I want

Good point, $1000 per year to feel good is a small price to pay.

MR isn't technically an IND color as it's a no cost option on the F85/F86. Plant Spartanburg is not equipped for true IND - only Azurite and Pyrite are available as "semi-IND" options with a $1900 up charge. Cancel the order and apply the $5200 to an F85 ;-)

Clearly there's a USA/EU order issue here, as every BMW dealer I spoke to (including BMW Park Lane in London which is owned by BMW themselves) said it wasn't possible to order X5 in any colour other than the ones listed.

I would have been happy with being able to order my X5 in the metallic red that is a listed option on the X6......given the X5/X6 bodies come down the same bloody production line and go through the same bloody paint booth.....but no, can only order the listed standard colours or 4 optional listed Ind tones......end of, period, nadda.....go away and don't ask the question again.

Garage List
You could always wrap it in Estoril blue...

Well that's the same scoop I got when I asked in 2012, 2013, and 2014. Perhaps it just became a possibility in the 2016 or 2017 model year. My BMW CA told me that the BMW Spartanburg plant has a very small capacity for special colors - something like 2 per week...?

In any case maybe they accepted my order since Melbourne Red is a "regular color" on the X5M. In that case I'm guessing they might accept a special order for Long Beach Blue as well since that's also a X5M color.

I started talking to dealers last July/Aug....and kept asking right up until finally ordering in Nov last year, so mine is a MY2017.

I would have loved to be able to order MR or LLB

Mind you, the possible wait times might have been an issue, as I needed car to be at dealer before end of March this year......although I would have been happy to wait 9 months or so, had they said yes to either of the factory red options or LLB last summer

Anyway, car is built now and on a boat making it way across the Atlantic, so I'll have to make do with Atlas Cedar.

Hmm... the wheels are turning as I really like Donington Gray that is available on the X5M/X6M.

Feels like BMW is really missing an opportunity here by not having a program that encourages customer's to choose optional colors. This is the age of 3D printing and mass customization. Why not foster a deeper two-way relationship with customers by giving them ways to personalize their high-end vehicles?

What does the PO state and which option code did they use on the build sheet?

The print screen I have from the dealer - under the Status Tab - has a section on the right side called "sub notes: special order 490 - melbourne red metallic"
The production code has a red "S" at the end of the code as well.

The issue is that that inserting a special order into the mass-production F85 line has major logistics challenges, regardless of whether it's truly a custom color or not.
It's probably easier logistics-wise at the Individual Color shop as all they handle is one-off requests, so all series cars could go through the paint line.
Inserting an F15 into the sea of F85s getting built and then painted MR opens up all sorts opportunities for screw ups IMO, hence the big up-charge.

And probably disrupting or possibly delaying the flow in production for Joe blow who is waiting patiently for his F15 Xline to be built ASAP. Joe Blow then comes here on the forums complaining how BMW in Spartanburg is pissing him off

ah, okay... so it's an x6 color going on an x5? not a color from a palette which is unavailable in the US... correct?

It's a color available on the X5M and X6M. Kind of weird that BMW doesn't offer Melbourne Red and Long Beach Blue as standard optional colors on the regular F15 X5. It is a sporty SUV (oh sorry. SAV). Seems like bright red and bright blue would be somewhat popular colors.

I guess it's because they're exclusive to current production real ///M products although I did have it on my F31 but it is not a F80/F81/F82 color at the moment (iirc)unless ordered through Individual.
