Service Notification on Cluster?

From the day I picked up my F15 2 weeks ago, I receive a service notification flash on my cluster every time I start the vehicle. Is this normal when the next service is so far out (8k miles / 12 months)? Based on the information in iDrive, I can see it's related to the oil since the date/mileage indicator sync up. I would expect this flash to only start hitting when I was somewhat close to needed service, and generally feel this is annoying. I called the dealer and they said this is normal and that all BMWs flash this notification every time the car is started no matter when the next service is due. I'm sensing BS...

Mine flashes that as well. It's normal

Thanks Russmov, I appreciate it. Any other brand vehicle I've ever owned would never show this so it just seemed suspicious.

No problem.
I guess they flash it at startup because most people won't go through iDrive. Just my guess.

At 8,000 miles to service? No, mine doesn't do this.
Mine will only flash or alert me at around 3,100 miles and on-wards.

If this really isn't warranted, my goal is to find some official BMW documentation on the protocol so I can put it back in my dealers face for being lazy.

Mine pops up at start every day, my X4 used to as well.

As a new BMW driver I noticed this too. Haven't got around to seeing if there's a setting somewhere to delay the prompt so will watch this thread since Kzang has reported here that his vehicle so hopefully there's a solution.

In the meantime, it seems like an odd approach to me. When you see an alert every day that you don't need to react to then you're inclined to start ignoring it. Then later on, nearer to when you do need to take action and you're conditioned not to notice.

I prefer how other brands handle this by popping up the alert closer to when it's needed and varying the frequency like once a week, then once a day when it gets closer, then at every start up once it gets really close.

Mine is a 2015 model, so I would wait and see what others are saying. I'm pretty sure of this was the case we'd have more frequent topics on why BMW's have service notifications at x,xxx amount of miles to go.

For me, it's my second - a 2018.

My first doesn't really count though since it was 1974 BMW 2002 that I owned from somewhere around 1985 to about 1990. I say it doesn't really count because no such thing as a maintenance minder or any electronics for that matter other than the AM/FM radio!

Just went to the garage and took a picture of mine. Like I said, does it every time I start it.
