Lol u guys are great,, but the guys who's say.... Coming from an SRT.. I should get the 50i.. Lol u killing me! Hahaha

But seriously like a few others have said in posts.. In NYC l barely got to use the power I had...
I will see n make my decision with in a week... I know if I went with the 35i I'd have alot of play room for exhaust n downloads...
I think 0-60 in 5s might be pleasent enough actually.. SRT was 4.6 - 7 ish

Thanks guys

but the 50i is even faster.
my choice was between X5 and Srt for the most part. we all know were i ended up. but now that the Hellcat Engine will be Headed for the SRT8...that might be a different story.

I'm loving the feed back
Thnk u
I owned 4 BMWs with the N55 engine (2xE70 X5s, F10 535i, F06 640i). If this X5 is a family hauler, you really don't need more power than what the 35i offers. It's a great motor, tons of low tq, no turbo lag, and unbelievable MPG. There's also lots of tuning options to make more power than the X5 50i (downpipes, JB4, or Dinan). Save the $15k price difference and buy you a used E46 M3 for track use if you're into that.

I find it very hard to distinguish an X5 35i vs 50i (msport vs msport), unless I look at the front bumper heat exchanger openings. So you're not gaining any look from paying $15k more. Especially if you live in NYC, there's not much opportunity to let the bigger engine clear its throat.

Have you considered the X5 35d as well? It's a ton of fun, massive tq, and superior MPG.

Yea I'm not really a diesel liver. So that 35d is not in play

I'm also deciding on the.. I forget the exact name... Handling option? For torque rear cornering..

If guys lower their rides,,, can that option even be used?

Sorry if I'm being a newbie... Last BMW I owned was 2001... N it's wasn't as many features.. Lol I did all mods myself to her

Not in stone as vehicles can vary, but it "should" be close.

Overall, the 35 is a very balanced package since it is lighter.
Very interesting!!!

Vbox is as accurate as it can get so those numbers are legitimate.

Curious how did you do the launch on your 35i? Did you use launch control at all?

I would agree that if you are coming from a SRT8 you will need the 50i to get that same pulling power. The 35i with MPPK is nice and pretty quick for an suv but the V8 will be a beast regardless. The only thing you sacrifice with the V8 is fuel cost and reliability but that wouldn't matter if you only plan on keeping it for a few years (within warranty period)

5 second sprints are pretty impressive on a mid sized SUV if you asked me..
My 2010 535i was doing this....

Hey Alan thanks for input.. I read your elite build thread... Awesome ride

Honestly at this moment I'm leaning towards the 35i n doing some mods of my own.. But 50i is still in the mix.. ;p

Wot on the brake. 2700 rpm 4psi boost and let it rip. Very repeatable on the vbox. Had the phone app but did not like it. Not repeatable.

I love my 35i with MPPK stack with Racechip Ultimate. For local driving its more than enough. I will say that the only time I feel like i miss the V8 (i had a 2014 550) is on the highway. With the 550 once you gun it the speed just climbs with such a rapid pace that the inline 6 turbo can't match. 60-80-100-120 comes in a flash with the V8 where as with the 6 it takes more time to hit those speeds.

Alan
Hey Alan, do you have any 0-60 data for your MPPK+Racechip?

I'm wondering which tune has better performance, MPPK+Racechip vs MPPK+Dinan.

I don't but i would expect the times to be very similar to cars with MPPK and dinan. If anything dinan is known to be more conservative with their HP claims than others.

First post as well, as you can see from my name I was in the same shoes as you two months ago. Had 2012 jeep srt but drove 2014 jeep srt at 2 separate srt experiences and also had an E70 4.8i. Loved my 2012 jeep SRT (modded to over 500 HP and lowered) and couldn't justify jumping to 2014 SRT even with 8 speed transmission. Both put a huge smile on my face every time I pushed it. Raw power, not as refined as X5, and felt like I was going to lose control at any moment when pushed to its limits, but loved every minute of it. My E70 was a lot slower but handled curves better with less body roll and felt more solid. Was deciding between new 35i vs 50i, only test drove 35i because nobody had a 50i, and to me was underpowered compared to my SRT but handled better than E70 and SRT. Ended up with a 50i M sport with DHP. It feels faster than SRT and handles better than any SUV I have ever driven. Was very happy with my decision and will probably be getting Dinan tune soon. If I lived in a more affluent area with more luxury/performance SUV's, I would have purchased the X5M but where I live I didn't want to attract any more attention from neighbors and clients.

23k miles, two unscheduled dealer trips due to check engine lights (diff issues) both resolved within a day and I've had to 2 quarts of oil once so I'd say it's pretty reliable and more importantly a beast to drive!

I have a 2014 50i with 22,000 miles and have had ZERO issues. I previously had a 2012 E70 50i which was an oil burner but have had no such problems with this one. Historically, there have been reliability issues with BMW TTV8 but I think this one is better.

Good to hear that. I'm at 13k now. I hope it holds up as well as yours!

201 50i with around 23,000 miles, and only had a transmission hose leak. My wife and I both love the heck out of it. Side note...have not had to add any oil between changes. Strange, may be because my normal drive to and from work does not give me a very good chance to push it like I want to.

2015 50i just got it two months ago, and already have close to 3,000 miles. Friggin love this car, in some ways even more than my F80. The engine is awesome and ridiculously strong. I was on the fence between the 35i (for the better gas mileage) and the 50i, and I'm glad I went with the 50i. There's simply no comparison between the two in terms of the power and smile on my face when I go WOT.

Just passed break in 1200 miles and finally got to push the 50i through its paces. one word, amazing! from a stop compared to SRT, slightly slower off the line with a little Turbo lag but once turbos kick in it moves! Feels a lot faster than my modded SRT. I forget how fast I am going until I look at the speedometer. I know I made the right decision as well.
