Question RAM Question

i have two computers both with 4 ram slots max. currently on both i filled up only 2 (512mb x2) in dual channel.

i went to newegg and other sites to buy the same ram sticks but corsair doesn't sell them anymore. so what are my options? can i buy two different sticks (x2 512mb but different brand, speed, etc) and have everything still in dual channel? can i even get x2 1gb sticks along with my x2 512mb sticks and still be in dual channel?

as far as i know dual channel is two ram sticks same in two slots. so using a different brand in the other two slots, it should still be in dual channel no?

if you were to get ram sticks w/ diff performance, you have to make sure your mobo supports the ram as well as the size of it

i believe it has to be same ram size + speed. but imo dual channel doesnt really effect much in terms of daily use. I am guessing you computer is runnign DDR ram maybe somewhere along PC3200-4700?

Just buy the cheapest 1gb rams (which are dirt cheap now),, and stick it on the empty slots to see if eveyrthing works
